It's a winner on the stock-car circuit. It reaches 230 hp, with 250 lb-ft of torque, and goes 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. And it's a Neon. Yes, you heard me right, a Neon. The 2005 Neon SRT-4 is the subcompact street racer, a 4-door sedan that doubles as a mini muscle car.

2005 is the last year for any Neon, including the SRT-4. There were not many changes to the successful racer, except for new package options. An ACR package ramped up the street racer by adding wider wheels, a bigger rear sway bar, adjustable shocks, a lower ride height, and requisite ACR logos. A limited Commemorative Edition SRT-4 was released for cool factor only, its main characteristic being its design -- blue Viper stripes on a white body.

The stiff sport-tuned suspension and steering make the 2005 Neon SRT-4 easy to drive. Its 2.4-liter, twin-cam, 230-hp engine makes it fun to drive. Its roomy cab, fold-down rear seats, and huge trunk make it comfortable to drive. Its ABS, traction control, race-car supportive front seats, and optional side airbags make it safe to drive. High marks from owners go to its speed, handling, exhaust noise, excellent brakes, and V8-like performance. Low marks go to lack of cruise control option, a rear spoiler that impedes visibility, lack of rear power windows, large turn radius, and a clunky shifter.
