British automaker Aston Martin made a big splash in 2005 with the debut of the DB9, a trophy coupe to replace the DB7. The biggest selling point for the DB9 comes from its Herculean 5.9 L, 450 hp V12 engine with standard 6 speed automatic transmission and optional 6 speed manual. This new model comes in 2 trims: the Coupe and the Volante convertible.
Gas mileage comes out to 11 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway. Both trims have 2 doors, seat 4, and offers standard air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power/leather seats, cd player, ABS brakes, traction control, and stability control. Navigation system comes as an option.
Overall, drivers like the '05 DB9's style and powerful engine. While consumers say it guzzles gas and doesn't perform as well as a Porsche or Ferrari, the 2005 Aston Martin DB9 shows a lot of promise. Look for the Aston Martin to make the necessary improvements that will propel the DB9 to the top of the sports coupe market.

(13 reviews)2005 DB9s, like all Aston Martins, make every errand special. They make you want to drop 10 pounds, stand up tall and buy a fine, new, tailored suit; just to try to look like you belong with this car. They are an incredible bargain, but occasional maintenance costs reflect the exotic league where Aston Martins belong.
The most beautiful car ever made. There is nothing quite like the Aston for power. style and distinctiveness. Hand built with extraordinary attention to detail and the best materials. Driving it is the closest thing to a spiritual experience on 4 wheels.
Great presence on the road. Plenty of torque and definitely needs the traction control on. Great exhaust note from the V12. Early gremlins is the dodgy tire sensors. Cheap plastics on steering wheel stalks and handle to tilt seat forward. Signs of plastics needing to be reglued :) Interiors is generally luxurious with wall to wall leather/suede. Simple electrics. Crappy sound system (but who listens to music when you have such a great exhaust note). Service history suggest maintenance not too horrific yet, but a big question mark as it age. Easy to live with auto transmission. A true GT with comfort and performance. Had to replace ignition coils which was quite pricey. Apparently, a know problem in the original engines. So far so good with the new coils.
In some respects a supercar for the road, the DB9 surprises with performance, grip and its grand touring capabilities. Not a practical car—even the slightest cambre crossing a road will lead to the spoiler hitting the concrete. The problem is finding enough places to “grand tour” to.
