Overview

The 2003 Toyota Prius did not change at all from the 2002 model year in preparation for a complete redesign for 2004. However, the world situation did, and the fuel-efficient hybrid was more popular than ever.
The roomy cabin allows passengers the luxury of easy entrance and exit, as well as plenty of noggin clearance. The Prius feels much more comfortable than one might expect from such an efficient car. The seats are adequately wide, and the state-of-the-art technology scattered throughout the dash is imminently fun for all to watch.
Mileage is about 52 in the city and 45 on the highway (better in the city because the frequent stops allow the gasoline engine to shut off, conserving fuel).

Our '91, manual transmission Camry, 32 MPG, was lost in an auto accident. So for a month, I drove our '01 Echo, a nice goin' for groceries car. But the used, '03 Prius has been a step above both cars: 1) quieter - a smaller engine and more time using electric motors 2) efficient - averaging 52 MPG over 30,000 miles 3) creature comforts - electric everything The seats are at the right height but could do with more tilt options. Also, the North American model does not have rear folding seats like the European and Japanese models (but Echo rear seats may work.) Still, it very comfortable for cross country trips because the lack of vibration and noise makes it a comfortable ride. Bob Wilson

I have always loved everything about this car and now that fuel is getting pricey, I'm even happier. This car goes as fast as I want to, and more importantly, when I'm stuck in traffic the emissions are zero.
