Following on Toyota's five-year cycle for car redesign, the 2001 Toyota Rav4 was almost completely revised. Perhaps the biggest improvement was in the engine: a new 2.0-liter 4I engine added more horses, bringing the total to 128 horsepower and standard towing capacity to 1500 pounds. The little SUV also grew a little, adding inches in height, width, and length. Reviewers were happy with the improved size, as it provided a little more elbow room for passengers, storage capacity for bags, while not making the vehicle too bulky or unwieldy. Some reviewers noted a significant drop in gas mileage as the car aged, going from 23/27 to around 18/23.

Excellent. I am happy with it, does as a runner to the stables with bales of shavings in the back, back seat between headrest great saddle rack, and backseat headrests make good bridle hangars. Chloe takes up all of back seat with her stuff and carseat. Me and puppy up front. It also has x2 12v plugs one in boot which is handy so i can plug dvd in for her and free's up the ones at front for ipod and phone charger.

It maybe slow but it can go anywhere, it had taken me to a number of places including offroad, sexy body, reliable engine & she has save my life. Will get another one of a asme kind soon in 2 door mode.

115K miles trouble free with the exception of the emission system had to replace catalytic converter & O2 sensors & now having trouble with the hard shift 1st & 2nd gears code P0750 bad transmission shift solenoid seems there should be a way to tell if there is a failure in the ECU besides replacing it 2001 not worth $ to fix a serious transmission problem
