With the biggest cabin and trunk in its class, the 2000 Buick Park Avenue embraces its full-size status with pride. As its name implies, the luxury sedan is all about comfort and convenience, and its Ultra model adds some sporty driving fun in an effort to attract a younger generation -- let's say, anyone under 65.

The 2000 Park Avenue comes in a base and Ultra model. Both feature the 3.8-liter DOHC V6 engine that hits 205-hp in the base and 240-hp with a supercharged version in the Ultra. Both are coupled with a 4-speed automatic only. New in 2000 is standard StabiliTrak on the Ultra and optional on the base. Side impact airbags are added to the dual front airbags on both models, and new child seat anchors are included in the backseat. OnStar is now standard on the Ultra. The base 2000 Park Avenue is decked out with power features, power seats, dual-zone climate control, and cruise control, but the Ultra tries to snazz things up a bit with a CD player, trip computer, heated seats and mirrors, leather seats, and leather and wood trim. While ABS is standard on both models, traction control is also included on the Ultra, along with rain-sensing wipers and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Most of these features are available as options on the base Park Avenue.

For a sturdier ride, a Gran Touring package adds 16-inch alloy wheels, a stiffer suspension, larger brakes, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The 2000 Park Avenue is attractive because it is roomy (a 19 cubic foot trunk) and comfortable, and the 3800 II engine purrs smoothly and quietly. Drivers know there will be no surprises with the Park Avenue. There are few complaints about this luxury sedan, and most drivers like the extra power in the Ultra. Though it's trying to appeal to younger drivers, its distinctly American looks and oversized cabin are not necessarily what this target audience is looking for.
