The 1992 Ford F-150 may not have topped the market in sales, but that wasn't the fault of its spectacular redesign. Streamlined, curvy, and powerful, the new look brought back the flareside option and introduced a stepside choice as well. Trims available included XL, XLT, and XLT Lariat; buyers chose among standard cabs in 2-door and 4-door setups, and the popular extended-cab supercab. The '92 Ford F-150 came in long-bed and short-bed models as well.
Engine offerings for the 1992 Ford F-150 ranged from the 4.9-liter straight six through the Windsor 5.8-liter V8 to a choice of powerful diesel engines - the IDI diesel V8 at 185 hp or a new turbodiesel IDI V8 that put out an astonishing 195 horsepower.
Four-wheel-drive options, including automatic locking hubs, made the Ford F-150 pickup a popular choice for off-road excitement, as well as a mainstay workhorse for farm and ranch. This solid powerhouse is still a favorite with tuners and anyone who loves rugged muscle trucks.

The 351w has a moderate hp, but massive low end torque, which is what you want in any practical pick-up. It's been in the family since '92 and having been driven on crappy northern roads and never seeing a day in a garage, it's held up very well, having just rolled over 256K as of 8-13-09. Engine still runs strong as ever, 400/351w is ford's best small block and completely bullet proof. I am now a fan of the ford Automatic overdrive trans, but since im going in excess of 80 fairly often, i sometimes wish i had that 5th gear. Mileage bites, but then again, back in 92, gas was about a buck a gallon. For it being a relatively new EFI system on an old iron block at the time, it's given me almost no grief considering its been left in the elements nearly everyday since it rolled out of the factory. It's been a daily driver for years. as for the fun factor- it's not exactly a hot rod, its a truck that with full tanks and the driver on board is pushing nearly 7000 lbs gvw. still, it hugs the road and is very predictable. How ever, if you've seen me drive, you know how much i put it through it's paces. Given the opportunity, I'd get another model like this in a heart beat, but only with the 351.

the body is rusting but its still looks pretty sexy its my second favorite body style of ford pick ups the 4x4 works really good im glad ford still used lock outs on there front ends in the 90's unlike the others

Performace was great with its 300 inline 6 cylinger, build no problems with needing repairs no squeaks or rattles, Apperance was ok it was a work truck no dents or dings though, cost very afordable, fun factor excelent, gas mileage was great even with the dual tanks.
