Used 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix for Sale near Trenton, NJ
Although ranked as a midsize, it looks like a big old American car, but it's sloping hood and rear deck lines and the stylish coupe trims add a touch of sportiness to what is a roomy, practical, and affordable family car. In the words of one fan, the Grand Prix is "better and faster than any Mustang!"
For the 1991 Grand Prix, there's a new SE sedan to go along with the LE and sportier STE. The Turbo coupe is history in place of a GTP coupe, which features a brand new engine - a 3.4-liter, DOHC V6 that hits 210 hp when paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and 200 hp with a new 4-speed automatic. The STE, which shares a lot of performance features with the GTP, has a 3.1-liter, 140-hp V6. The new 3.4 V6 is an option on all trims but the LE sedan. Otherwise, the standard engine is the 2.3-liter, 160-hp Quad 4 with the automatic transmission. The LE coupe is also gone in 1991. Other minor changes include a new grille and four headlights on all coupes.
As always, the 1991 Grand Prix suffers from brake problems along with a growing list of other repairs that are usually expensive, say owners. Some drivers mention that the door handles seem to break off easily and the fuel light never goes off. Limited legroom in the backseat, particularly in the coupe, is also mentioned. Grand Am fans like its sporty handling, V6 speed and power, and its stylish looks. The interior is roomy, well laid out, and full of a lot of standard features.
4.1 Overall rating
(15 reviews)The power of the 3.4 DOHC was decent, not the fastest car out there but what you loose in power it makes up for in handling. The independent suspension with disc brakes at all four corners helps the car carve. I really liked the HUD (Heads up Display) on these cars. This car got about 32 mpg average. (My other 3.4's are lower at around 26 mpg.) Change the oil on this motor often and it will be good.
my grand prix was always fun to drive and i felt confident when driving it, it had a very spirited v6 and the car was very cheap to maintain i really liked the full length tail lights and front light-bar but really wanted traditional fog lights
first of all it was a gtp 3.4 dohc v6 honeycomb rims lots of balls never let no one pass me while i had it was a great car for eveyday travel or raceing obviously it was fast enuf because its a crumpled can now haha the interior like all gp's was great very functional cruise power everything gm spared nothing on these cars if i wasent looking to buy a fire bird id have another one of these in the garage for sure good on gas super fun to drive
The 4th year for the W body platform, gone were the modular front headlights on the coupe models, being replaced by miniquads, the flanks got a new *boy racer* plastic cladding added to them, first year for the GTP & the GT. The electrics were prone to problems if one had the electric lumbar seats and the airbags for the headrest would often leak & deflate, the seats themselves are a blessing for long distance drives, one can set then to whatever one needs to get comfortable in them, the headlights leave something to be desired (mini quads), they just don't throw a good beam for viewing at night, the heater tubing/hose routing caused the supply side to rot because of it's location to the passenger side front wheel and the mud & debris thrown up on it. The cars that were equipped with the power moonroof are definitely a *want list* feature. Overall I like the model, no car is perfect, I always will despite it's shortcomings.
this was as close as i could find to a picture of my very first car a 1991 pontiac grand prix GTP and how i miss my first car though mine did not have the wing on the back it was a great car for the time i had it and i wish i could find one again someday
