New trim names were the biggest change for the 1989 Dodge Dynasty, a boxy 4-door mid-size sedan that offers lots of interior space and sturdy performance for not much money. The base model came standard with a 2.5-liter, 96-hp I4, while the LE featured a Mitsubishi 3.0-liter, 141-hp V6. In 1989, they came standard with a 3-speed automatic, with the option of a 4-speed Ultradrive on the V6. This transmission experienced some initial problems in its first years of operation.
Based on a New Yorker platform and looking virtually identical, the 1989 Dynasty advertised that it sat six in its roomy interior. There were only basic standard features, but plenty of options to add on, such as power windows and locks, air conditioning, and a cassette player. A sunroof and ABS brakes were options on the LE.
Despite its square old-ladyish looks, the 1989 Dynasty gained many fans among its owners. They report that it performs well in the city or highway, with smooth handling, and responsive acceleration. The seats are extremely comfortable for long rides, the interior roomy, and the entire body solid and reliable. Drivers also thought the dash layout was convenient and easy to use. Drawbacks include transmission problems, awkward shift response with the Ultradrive, and not very tight cornering.

(10 reviews)Nice square car keeps deer from landing in windshield. Comfortable inside. Wicked heat in winter.
This was my first car when I turned 16! I got it in 2010 I believe and it was a great first car! Ran great and drove smoothly. The mile gauge broke when we had it, it stopped on 70K miles. It was previously owned by an older woman so it wasn't drove that much. Before I had it, it was my older sisters car and it was passed down to me. This car was nothing but reliable to me. Occasionally didn't start but that was because I would forget to turn the headlights off. I'm not much of a car person so I didn't really do the upkeep on it, my step dad did all of that. Had to change the breaks a couple of times, it started overheating and I couldn't drive it for more than 25 minutes before it started acting up. 2 months ago the rod shaft and piston stopped working so I thought I might as well buy a new car because it would cost more to fix than what the car is worth. Overall this was a great first car! I loved mine and I do miss it!
It was my first car, and was totally worth the 1400 I paid for it. Kept it for 3 years and averaged 800 a year in repairs..... But the memories are what counts!
it was pretty good on gas
I'm 16 and my step-dad's grandma used to own this car. I got it with only 70,000 miles on it and I love it! Its a great first car and does everything a 16 year old would need it for. The only down falls are it's not the most attactive car out there and its need a fair amount of work over the years; nothing major but still costly. It still runs nicely and its very comfortable to drive.
