The 1987 Jeep Wagoneer had three engine options, all grown from the 24 years of Wagoneers that had come before. An I-4 cylinder was available for those who just needed the Wagoneer for daily town driving. An I-6 was available if you needed a bit more power, and if you wanted to use the 1987 Jeep Wagoneer the way Jeeps were meant to be used (off-road) or for heavy-duty work, then the V-8 was made for you. To go along with these three engine options were three different transmissiona: a 4-speed automatic, a 3-speed automatic, or a 5-speed manual, depending on your driving preference. For more than 25 years, the Jeep Wagoneer was a rugged, dependable vehicle that always had plenty of room for families, groceries, or tools. The 1987 Jeep Wagoneer was no different. Very little changed on this institution during its time in production, because so little needed to be changed.
