Like-Handles like a go kart, lots of aftermarket support, VW Scene is heady. The GTI was the first hot hatch, and it was one of the first cars to start the trend of performance oriented compact cars. The MK2 is arguably the best balanced chassis VW has ever produced. Dislike-Underpowered 8v

The car was a good basis for VW to build on. I never owned a 16V, but I heard the engine was a big improvement. I think in this day and age, it would be a vastly underpowered car, but also easily upgradeable. No computer to speak of so no chip to upgrade which would be a disadvantage. The 5spd was smooth though.

i think that this car is so much fun. it has a little bit of speed to it. once you get past a certain point its not as good. comparatively speaking. great for something like autcross....super stiff suspension. love taking on the gravel roads...its super controlled because of the short wheelbase and i love this car...engine has over 225,000 miles on it and it runs like a dream.

There's really nothing I don't like about this car... It's the MOST FUN car I've owned... Handles gravel and snow and ice covered roads like a hot knife through butter... Would love to convert mine to a VR6 2 L 16 valve but will come in due time.....
