(7 reviews)This formerly clean & beautiful '83 Grand Marquis was purchased in rural Carthage, Illinois. I saw her sitting on the side of the road with a For Sale sign in the front window. After owning a larger car I missed the road feel and roominess. This had a 302 V8 with a lazy AOD transmission that wanted to shift into overdrive at around 25 miles an hour. Other than that, everthing worked perfectly when I bought this including the "premium sound" stereo and A/C. All was well with the world...until I slammed into a 10 point buck on I-74 during the thanksgiving break of my freshman year of college. The radiator core support, front clip, and radiator were replaced by my Father and I over winter break. After that the car wasn't the same. That 302 ran like a champ though, and it would take ANYTHING that I threw at it and didn't even wince. I wish I hadn't hit that stupid animal
this car was nice to drive in but wasn't for someone who was 20 years old at the time.
daily driver that got good back seat action
429ci v8 auto over 400hp 3 tons of steel but could fly passed my t.a like it was standing still at over 160mph
The beast is quite a car. She has taken many long distance road trips and never really faltered once during them. as a daily driver, she is a little cost prohibitive, both in gas mileage and upkeep. She was built with the low power 5.0 V8 so she can get out of her own way, but barely, and she won't be taking on any Mustangs anytime soon. As for the fun factor, she kind of can go almost anywhere, from deep in the mountains on logging roads to snowy city streets, and rarely has much she can't handle. Lots of interior room for passengers, plus lots of trunk space for luggage, coupled also with the ride quality that nobody could ever deny, make her the ultimate long distance road trip car. The downside is gas mileage and maintenance costs. She is, after all, a 27 year old daily driver, therefore parts fail quite often. Overall, though, i wouldn't give her up for the world.
