Like a Jaguar and Alfa Romeo and Porsche 911, everyone enthusiast should own or have owned a Ferrari at some point. Even though prices are climbing back up, a 308 still represents the quintessential starter Ferrari. Its looks still turn heads, there's the sound of a nicely tuned V8 behind your ears, and it walks the walk. It doesn't have close to the performance of the modern cars, particularly the 2-valve injected cars of 1980-1982, but it has a soul. Something that transcends its stats and is more a sense of the history that preceded it. It comes up through the road into the wheel, pedals and shifter and finds its way under your skin.

Stunning Italian design, beautifuly engineered and built. Art on wheels! The performance is still up there where it should be, and P-car drivers commonly back off when they see the badge (scheisters!) In reality, the HP figures are not that impressive by today's standards, but a perfect chassis compensates for that, and it will still run away from most. Even though she's Italian, the build quility is excellent, apart from the crappy fusebox and relays. It hasn't given me much grief, but the pop-up headlights do 'wink' on occasion. It;s a Ferrari, and it will never be cheap to drive. Parts are expensive, and a properly carried out 30k km service is an engine-out operation. Timing belts (2) MUST be done evry 3 years. It is, however, not overly complicated, and if you're so inclined, you can carry out the work yourself. In all, the 308 is a very rewarding car to own. Values have been stable/increasing (at least in SA) which compensates for the cost of maintenance. It's somewhat limited in its' use, as you can't leave it behind just anywhere, but every kilometer you're travelling in it is an occasion, and there is always a grin on your face.

308 GTSi. Custom major service engine modifications. Valve covers removed, valve adjustment performed, new valve seals & gaskets, timing belts etc.New stainless steel fuel lines & carbon fibre air plenum hose, which are an upgraded modification from original equipment. Red, tan interior. Like Magnum PI.
