It was actually a 1975 Merak, but CAR IQ doesn't list Meraks under Maserati(I guess they won't pass my CAR IQ test). In 1975 it was probaly a real screamer. Faster than a Ferrari 308 of the same vintage, but today a well tuned F-150 would beat it from a stop light. As for build quality...Umm it's a hand built Italian sports car. I think there were something like 1800 built between 1971 and 1983. There are so few of these cars they all take on an persona of there own. You never really own them but are only a caretaker in it's legacy. Those of you who've owned a rare old car like this know what I'm talking about.
