Overview

Minor and fairly invisible changes were made to the Volkswagen Beetle for 1969. The ignition lock included a steering wheel lock, and the rear-view mirror got a day/night adjustable feature. Double-jointed rear axles were included on all U.S. models. The warning lights on the instrument panel received identifying letters or symbols, and late in the year the speedometer received a 1/10th of a mile indicator.
Little else changed for the '69 Beetle. Power was provided by a 1500cc air-cooled, rear-mounted engine that produced 53 horsepower. A four-speed manual transmission and telescopic shock absorbers were also part of the package.
Standard features included swiveling sun visors, coat hooks, assist straps, an automatic windshield washer, an overhead light, folding rear seats, and luggage space under the front hood and in a three-foot carpeted compartment behind the rear seats. A convertible top was optional.

My beetle is a baja bug modified for off roading. It takes a lot of work to keep it going through the rough terrain, but its worth it. The wife and I wanted somthing we could cruise around in together in the desert. And it is fun as hell.

The VW Bug is an eye catcher and great conversational piece. It is excellent on gas mileage and very capable of getting you to your favorite beach and up mountains. I have enjoyed simply going out on Sunday drives to my favorite coffee cafe shop or favorite parks for a picnic.
