Reviewed a 1965 AMC Ambassador on Apr 24, 2009
What can I say? it was my first car. One of these days, we'll get it back on the road again. Mine is a 990 Cross Country Station Wagon with the 327 V-8 and a two barrel carb (not the standard 4 barrel). No power steering, no power brakes, BUT a police option suspension and braking arrangement. It was the ultimate sleeper, and she was faster than a scalded cat. Handled decently - I spearated the tread in all four tires due to taking it through the mountains a bit too fast, one too many times. The doors still close clean, the interior is still nice - seats need recovered, but the NOS stuff is in the box, just waiting for "time". It's a shame that AMC was allowed to go under. There was no buy out for them, and GM, Ford and Chrysler put the nails in the coffin of a great truly visionary car company. RIP AMC.
