2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD

The GMC Sierra 2500HD is the brand’s entry in the competitive three-quarter-ton pickup market. It was styled after the Sierra 1500. Even though the smaller model gets a complete redesign for 2019, the Sierra 2500HD soldiers on unchanged. As before, GMC offers the Sierra 2500HD in double cab and crew cab models, each with either a 6.5-foot or an 8-foot bed.
The big draw for the Sierra 2500HD is its work-horse capability, which starts with a standard 6.0-liter V8 gasoline engine with 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque plus a heavy-duty 6-speed transmission in either rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). There’s also a standard locking rear differential. Properly equipped, it can tow up to 14,300 lbs.
The real star of the show though, is the available 6.6-liter turbocharged diesel V8 engine with 445 hp and 910 lb-ft and 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel-equipped models are instantly identifiable by a prominent and functional hood scoop that draws in cool outside air to maximize the engine’s performance. It’s also available in either RWD or 4WD. It can tow as much as 15,400 lbs.
Trim levels for the 2500HD include Sierra, SLE, SLT, and Denali. Base kicks things off with rear bumper steps, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Bluetooth, and USB ports.
The SLE trim adds an electronic transfer case for 4WD models, an integrated trailer brake controller, remote keyless tailgate locking, a larger 8-inch infotainment system, 4G LTE connectivity, a 4.2-inch color instrument panel LCD, and LED cargo box lighting.
The SLT trim gets leather upholstery, heated outboard seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, power-adjustable pedals, and a 110-volt power outlet. There is an All Terrain HD package available on SLT 4WD models for those with increased off-road needs. It includes a body-colored grille, a black skid plate, black assist steps, special 18-inch aluminum wheels, all-terrain tires, a spray-in bedliner, and the Z71 off-road suspension.
The Denali trim, available only as a crew cab, is the luxury model, and comes equipped with unique chrome appointments, wheels, body-colored bumpers, and a special layered mesh grille. Inside, you’ll find upgraded and perforated leather, wireless phone charging, an 8-inch instrument panel LCD, and heated and cooled 12-way power front bucket seats.
The Sierra 2500HD comes equipped with a good number of safety and utility features. Stability control with trailer sway assist is standard. Customers can request a Trailering Camera system at the dealer, which includes cameras on the exterior mirror and trailer, six touch-screen menu choices, many vantage points, and blind-spot assistance. There’s even an available Snow Prep Package that adds a power feed for backup, a 170-amp alternator, a forward lamp wiring harness, provisions for a roof-mounted beacon light, underbody shields, and uprated front springs.
The 2019 GMC Sierra remains committed to providing solutions for those whose demands are well outside of the ordinary. Look for it to arrive in dealerships later this year.
