A Car That Anyone Can Love — this car has everything, room for family, powerful engine, great sound system, room for bikes, comfortable drive. its just not that pretty to look at. there is nothing besides that to complain about. ive had it for 6 years, runs flawlessly at over 100,000 miles.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: The leg room you get in the back is unbelieveable, enough room for anyone and everyone. amazing Bose sound system. very comfortable inside, back seats slightly recline back, they really give you your money's worth. Love the trunk space. with one back seat folded dowm, i can can fit a bike in there and have a seat left. with both seats down it is possible to fit 3 full sized bikes. its definitely powerful, doesn't look like so, but it is. i've beaten an si a few times. large side mirrors are great almost no blind spots. had it for six years, has over 100,000 miles and runs flawlessly. even with a powerful engine, it gets 22mpg. remote start is the coolest thing. and is helpful in the winter time. cup holder are everywhere!

Cons: its not the best looking car, but i have grown on it.

Too Expensive To Buy New But Lease Backs Are Hitting The Marked At Half Price — been a fan of hatchback styles all my life, from a 76 monza spyder, to a suburau outback. The maxx is great looking, lots of front torque and unique on the road, especially the ss version. fun fast and great on "lets go shopping road trip"

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: comfortable, the 70's on xm radio, tire chirp to show off

Cons: better if all well drive but fine in winter with the proper grips

All In All, I Have Been Reasonably Happy With This Car. It's Not My Old 1978 Malibu, But It Does Ok — Performance - adequate for my purposes. Nothing too flashy, but it gets me from A to B in the time I want it to. Quality is reasonable, but only average. The brakes drive me crazy, but it's a typical front-wheel drive GM, with undersized rotors that wear out and warp in no time. No particular squeaks or rattles, but the really annoying thing is the rear window washer jet that keeps coming disconnected. That and the remote that crapped out on me after three years. Appearance and styling are good, but the cloth seats really show every stain and spill that happens. Should've ScotchGuarded when I bought it. Very happy with the mileage. It regularly gets 35 mpg on the highway, and about 25-28 in the city. Winter is a different thing. It really sucks gas in the cold weather. Cost of repairs has been reasonable,. As mentioned above, my only beef is with the brakes. 110,000 km and 2 complete brake jobs, rotors and all. That's not acceptable. Fun - no. It's workmanlike at best. But if Iwanted fun, I would own a sports car. I need function, rather than fun.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Relatively reliable.  Comparatively good on gas.

Cons: Brakes are a problem for me.

Great All-around Car. — Gas milage not so great unless speed is maintained around fifty miles per hour without any stop and goes. SS suspension is unbeleivable, except at very high speeds where the typical front-wheel drive instability raises its head. Only thing wrong inside is a plastic trim piece around the back door handle won't stay on. Occassionally the rear window wiper turns itself on for a few seconds.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Fun and practical

Cons: gas mileage (SS model)

It Was Pretty Good — The performance was great as far as you can expect from a regular malibu, because that's all it is except that its a hatchback.

Pros: great gas mileage

Cons: try to find a replacement rear window wiper blade

2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx SS FWD Review
says:
The Malibu Maxx SS is the trim level of choice. It avoids many of the problems of the 3.5L engine by eschewing it for the 3.9 in addition to the extra horse power it provides. In addition, the early electronic steering of all other models of the Maxx is not found here, nor are the related issues. The hydrolic steering is highly responsive, although the car does lack a practical turning radius. Although the ride comfort and interior are slightly better in the LTZ, one will not be dissapointed in this vehicle.

Back Seats Ranked 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx SS FWD better.
"The SS has an upgraded interior from the LT, which is always perferrable. My SS also came with a rear radio for the back seat to listen to with blue tooth headphones. Both vehicles come standard with rear ceiling windows and shades to cover them."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx SS FWD better.
"I do not believe that the SS does exceed the LT in cargo capacity. This website demanded that I select one or the other to be superior regardless me believing them to be the same."

says:
The Malibu Maxx is the best family car of its era. Only GM knows why they would have stopped making such a versatile vehicle despite popular demand for it. All trim levels were well worth the money, although one has to wonder why anyone would by a new LS for the meager difference in price. The LT is the place to start. It has everything a family could want and more without upgrading to the luxurious LTZ or the sporty SS. Although the vehicle is listed as a hatchback, it is in effect a station wagon with looks. Gas mileage is good without sacrificing power or room. For those of you who prefer cars to crossovers, SUVs, or vans, this is the car for you. Affordable people carriers are few and far between in recent years, and GM has only recently revived this style of vehicle in an affordable range in 2018 with the Buick Regal TourX. There were a few years in between in which they put out the Cadillac CTS Wagon, but what family was buying those new? Come on GM!
