2002 Saturn VUE Preview summaryImage

Despite its unassuming appearance, the 2002 Saturn VUE uses innovative engine technology to transport families on the go. Other vehicles on the market have transmissions that utilize several gears. However, the 5 seat VUE uses continuous variable transmission (CVT) technology in its 4 cylinder model to provide continuity and a smooth ride. The Saturn CVT system (also known as VTi) compares favorably to similar technology used by Honda and Audi.

Consumers can choose from 3 different trims. The 2.2 liter 143 hp 4 cylinder comes with front wheel drive or all wheel drive and uses either the 5 speed manual transmission or the CVT. In addition, the 3.0 liter 181 hp V6 has all wheel drive and uses 5 speed automatic transmission. The VUE uses gas at a conservative 20 mpg clip in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

The VUE does come with some caveats. First, despite foldable rear and passenger seats with ample leg room for everyone, some reviewers warn that taller consumers may find the VUE a tight fit. In addition, engine noise can detract from the enhanced CVT performance. However, despite these minor issues, the 2002 Saturn VUE combines solid performance and innovative technology into one family friendly package.

Feel excellent to have this car. Very good road view and stability. Brakes are good and comfortable driving leg room. Sunroof is really a good one in this car and gives more fun to my family. Awesome! The only problem i feel in my car is less mileage around 18 mpgOct 10, 2012

I first saw the Saturn VUE at a 2001 Auto Show. It was the only vehicle in the show that caught my attention as one that was new and innovative. Little did I know that six month later I would be driving one. When my luxury vehicle unexpectedly failed a few months later, I gave the VUE a serious look and bought one. The inline 4 cyl. with manual transmission is surprising peppy and economical. The vehicle provides exceptional value for the price. It has been inexpensive and easy to maintain. Like many I was disappointed to see GM drop Saturn. Sep 05, 2012

Good, safe family car. Also Great for a tradesman. Fold flat front seat makes it easy to carry something 8ft long. As a gardener I can carry 18 /40lb bags of soil with just the backseats folded down. As a painter/ paperhanger I can carry a paperhanging table and ladder, plus tarps and equipment. 5 speed manual transmission is really great and we were always glad we had it.Aug 05, 2012
