Awesome Fun To Drive When You Wanna Drive — The appearance of the 1999 Ford Explorer is awesome. It looks nice, drives nice and has a few options that make driving it fun. and comfortable. In addition, the build quality is bar none for a truck like this in its class. The gas mileage, maintenance and repair costs are very fair for a truck like this. As for performance, Im not sure where to start. Reliable starts even after being parked for a while. The acceleration, braking and handling are excellent. I was able to pull my 2700lb boat with this truck with ease and piece of mind.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: All around all purpose vehicle. Great for daily driver or have it waiting for those road trips when cargo room is needed. Little to no blind spots. Easy to drive.

Cons: Kayak hard to stow on top.

Decent — the transmission is suppose to last longer and be built like a chevy but this tranny is for a 4cly vehicle running a big suv ...some have very good paint others have very bad issues transmission is a big deal with a truck and this is suppose to be a truck not a toy car

Pros: looks good no bad paint

Cons: transmission may be going out

Great For Working And Hauling — Have never had any major issues with them usually get a different one when approaching 180,000 miles, or I see one that just wows me. I have owned other vehicles as well but my Explorers have always outlasted them of course that could be the other drivers but I enjoy owning my Explorers and have had the XLT`s, and theEddie Bauer Editions

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

Pros: I have owned 5 of these vehicles and they have been reliable

Cons: better fuel economy

Love It! — I've had this V6 Explorer for 5 years, love it to bits. Would have kept it till the day it died if it only had more towing power for a horse trailer. I will miss it sorely, that's for sure.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Everything but mileage

Cons: Around town Mileage

My First Car But It's Time To Move On — I loved my truck but I'm over it. I'm ready to save on gas and a car with no issues. This car is finished. I will stay with Ford possible by purchasing a Ford Fusion but this is no more. I would recommend this car to a high school or College student.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: This car has lasted me a VERY VERY long time but it just needs too much work and I'm ready for something new. I have never had a new car. This was my first vehicle so it is time for it to go

Cons: My truck is HORRIBLE on gas. I am still in the ice age of gas guzzlers. Ionly get 16mi/gal. I know right...absolutely horrible. As soon as I press on the gas the needle gas starts to go down. I was used to it years ago but I've driven a few rental cars and realized just how much I could save by buying a new vehicle better on gas. Also what sucks about my car is that when one thing fails that one faulty part takes down many other parts with it. This Ford is not forgiving at all when it comes to maintenance. If I don't get something fixed IMMEDIATELY its a wrap. By the time I can afford to get to it, a million other things have gone wrong. I guess this is the case with many other cars but there are cars like Toyota or Huyandai that are more forgiving

Just Really Like The Style. — They are really easy to work on. Why does anyone like their vehicle? Personal preference. Sharp color, leather interior, power sunroof. Decent size cargo area. I like that you can either open just the back glass or the entire hatch.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: The Eddie Bauer package came from the factor with a built in 8 inch sub w/ amp and a six disk changer.

Cons: Typical Ford rust starting.  Rear end sag had to be addressed.

My Second Explorer — I didn't know how to take care of a car the first time I purchased a vehicle. Needless to say I kept it for a few years and it had to go. My Second Explorer, I managed to keep the fluids in check and changed and the only thing thats happened is normal wear and tare. I've had her for 9 going on 10 years. And she is 15 years old. A keeper until she falls asleep and then I may have to bring her back!

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: With 275,500 Still purring

Cons: none plastic parts

Old Black Gets Through Anything — It has carried every body and every thing through anything. It has been through every snow storm in the last 10 years. It has carried the entire neighborhood through any storm, rain, sleet, snow, hail, trees, durecho, floods, tornadoes, and sunny weather. Our neighbors went out and bought one because this has been such a good car for us.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: gets through anything

Cons: have replace the cv joints

Decent — The size is not big enough for our families needs but overall is a great small SUV. It handles well, especially in the snow. Never got stuck and we live on a big hill. Has plenty of power and we used it to haul our boat. Drove it across country and it has been a trustworthy vehicle.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Great in the snow

Cons: Only seats 5 people

Time To Put Out To Pasture — Have put 223,000 miles on vehicle since new. The transmission has not been replaced, but is getting "clunky". We never hauled anything, only kids, dog, and cargo. Has held up well, but is showing age and mileage now. Would recommend the bigger engines (ours has SOHC V6, not base V6) as they seemed to have held up better over time, especially if not hauling large loads. Acceleration is not what it used to be when new. No jump to vehicle. Gas mileage has gone down.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Had vehicle since new in 1999.  Has generally done very well during 14 years.

Cons: Has not aged very well in last few years.
