This pure white SS convertible was unbelievable. Somebody had dropped a 345 horse Corvette, Muncie 4 speed and 4.11 limited slip differential into this car. It had the Duntov cam with that beautiful whump, whump, whump sound. It still had 283 powerglide emblems on the side so everbody, even Ramblers, wanted to race me...beat them all!!!

Pros: POWER !!!
Cons: Handling especially in the rain

Amazingly built car... high level of details from the engine turned dash to the chrome console, this car is high class.  Cruised like a dream... like you are floating on a cloud.  A real head turner!!

Pros: Comfortable, beautiful design
Cons: a little on the heavy side

My great grandfather bought this in 1965. It currently has 75,000 original miles. It's in decent shape. needs interior restoration and could use a new paint job and re-chrome the bumpers. Also needs new heads and exhaust and the engine should be overhauled..... well I guess we just need to fully restore it.

Pros: the 327 would kick anyones ass.... well almost
Cons: heads currently leak, otherwise i'd blow the doors off of it when I hit the pedal

Excellent car.  Highly encourage anyone to go for the power brake setup.  400ci s/b with 400turbo tranny makes a great deal of power as well if built right.  Not a big fan of the 283ci with the original 2 spd powerglide however it's not bad considering the time it was built.

Pros: Solid...will be here long after I'm gone.
Cons: Some parts are hard to come by, and the restoration process is slow.

Amazing acceleration - scary handling and stopping. had the 348 tripower triple carb setup on it and it made all sorts of loin-tingling noises when you tromped on it

Pros: Power, power, power - tyre-shredding burnouts
Cons: Fuel consumption, fuel consumption, fuel consumption

In October of 1962,I ordered a  Black/ red interior 63 SS with 4SP 409-425 HP.  It took a while to get it, but what a great car!  I kept it a couple of years and sold it as I was just married and worked for the US Forest Service in a remote area.  It required a lot of care , such as constantly adjusting solid lifter configuration and "loading up" due to  11.25:1 compression ratio.  It was really fun to drive, but expensive...yea even at $0.33/gal Chevron Custom Supreme prices.  I still remember the wonderful sound of that engine, even at an idle and that mighty torque.  The optional 4:56 gears and close ratio 4-speed made it very good "off the line", but mileage.....had to convert to 3:08....and burned clutch plates!
I'd sure like to get another one.

Cons: It takes a lot of work to keep it running right.  You also have to run exclusively on airplane gas unless you do some very expensive "detuning".

The 1963 Impala was the high water mark for all of the full-size Chevy's. It offered performance for practically any sized wallet and then some. I just would like to know what happened to the 427 STREET V-8 that seemingly so few people knew about.
