2008 Ford Focus SES Coupe Summary

A new trim for 2008, the Ford Focus SES Coupe joins the lineup in place of the Focus hatchback and wagon, and comes equipped with a number of unique features. A leather-trimmed steering wheel, four-way power-adjustable driver's seat, power heated exterior mirrors, metallic instrument panel applique, cruise control, fog lamps, and rear spoiler all come standard with the SES Coupe. So does Ford's Sync, an in-car, Bluetooth-compatible wireless communications system that enables drivers to make voice-activated cellphone calls, among other functions.

Options include antilock brakes, leather-trimmed seats, a power moonroof, premium audio system with a six-disc CD changer, and heated seats.

A 140-horsepower, 2.0-liter Duratec 20 inline four-cylinder engine powers the Focus SES Coupe. The engine has been updated to provide improved smoothness, responsiveness, and fuel efficiency. The engine links to either a five-speed manual transmission, which comes standard, or a four-speed automatic, available as an option.

The 2008 Focus SES Coupe sports a stiffer, "Euro-inspired" body structure and a retuned suspension, which result in better ride quality, sharper steering, and improved handling. Six-spoke 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels also help provide good ride quality. On the downside, some reviewers point out that the automatic transmission can make harsh shifts under aggressive driving, and others note that the backseat can be cramped. In addition, some find the interior components to be flimsy and lacking in quality. And some note that the lack of such standard features as antilock brakes makes the Focus SES Coupe less than competitive in its automotive segment.
