The BMW 528 was the entry-level model in the automaker's 5 Series lineup for 2000. Although not as powerful as the 540, its sibling in the 5 Series, the 528 still offered a respectable 190 horsepower, thanks to its 2.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine with variable valve timing. A five-speed manual was standard, while a five-speed automatic was available as an option.
Although the 2000 528 retained the exterior styling for the fourth-generation 5 Series, which had been introduced in 1997, it did offer a number of new standard and optional features, including standard traction control and stability control. Four-wheel anti-lock brakes and 15-inch alloy wheels were also part of the package.
Other standard features for 2000 included dual-zone automatic climate control, power steering, power windows, cruise control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, power door locks, and an AM/FM stereo system with a cassette player.
Options included leather seats and a power sunroof.
