In 1986, Toyota introduced the Mark III, or third generation, of the Supra. This year, for the first time, Toyota released the Supra as its own line, separate from the Celica. The exterior was redesigned with sleeker, less angular lines. The Supra also got a more powerful engine. Production delays caused the '86 model to be released late in the year, so until then the '85 was carried over.
The 1986 Toyota Supra came with a 200-horsepower, 2.8-liter engine. It only came in one body style, the liftback, in a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Fuel economy was about 18-23 mpg.
Drivers of the '86 Supra love the car for its sporty, unique looks and performance. It handles very well, especially at high speeds, and has a good amount of power. Because of its performance, the 1986 Supra is a popular car for racing, with many owners customizing their cars inside and out to improve both looks and performance.
