[Edit] Toyota responded to consumer complaints about the small engines in its Rav4s by producing its most powerful SUV ever. The 2004 Toyota Rav4 was given a 2.4-liter I4 rated at 161 horsepower, 13 more horses than the previous engine.
The leather package proved to be a popular option, with reviewers raving about the soft leather. Side airbags remained an option, as did new curtain side airbags. Power mirrors and intermittent wipers are now standard, as is a retuned, improved suspension.
The price on this little SUV did not reflect the quality of the improvements, keeping below the $20,000 cut-off for the standard SUV.
