Oil pressure

Asked by Josh Feb 06, 2017 at 09:18 AM about the 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE1 Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Yesterday I noticed my check engine light came on.
I looked at all my gauges and noticed my oil
pressure gauge was on zero. It doesn't even move if
you rev the motor or even when cranking or driving
it. I just had oil changed 3 days ago and I checked
and have plenty of oil on the dipstick. Could this be
the gauge itself/the sensor gone bad? Would that
make the check engine light come on?

There is a screen under the Oil Pressure Sending Unit that needs to come out and be cleaned or replaced. It gets gummed up and stops the flow of oil to the OPSU. After cleaning or replacing the screen, you might as well replace the oil pressure sending unit since it is out anyway.

Are there any unusual sound from the engine when it running such as ticking?

No ticking from the motor and truck is operating normal. No sounds at all

It is the plugged screen under the Oil Pressure Sending Unit.

Sounds like the screen that "Rowefast" mentioned. Ticking noises indicate low or no oil pressure, but but the absence of noises indicate that "Rowefast" is likely correct and that you have oil pressure.
