Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a road noise and a local shop said I had to replace the whole wheel, that the bearings couldn't be "fixed". Price quoted was 600.00. I found "right rear wheel assemblies" online new starting around 40.00 depending on the manufacturer. Can I just buy one of these and have a shop install it? Or should I buy a used one from a junker? 600 bucks seems really high when it looks like I can buy one really cheap. Thanks for any input.

I would not go with a junker bearing. The age of sitting and other factors may not work in your favor. You can have a shop install a part that you buy, but make sure you are buying the proper part. If it is a right rear wheel bearing, that is all you should have to buy. Yours is the bolt in type in the rear. Most of the price is labor, alldata says it pays 2.4 hours at shop rate. Thats what we get at our lexus dealer for labor.
