Pt Cruiser

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 pt cruiser just died while i was
driving. This happened a few weeks before
and it was the belts we replaced them and it
ran fine. Now this happened. It will crank
very slowly but wont turn over. The battery
terminals are clean. The battery is charged
and is only two years old. I was thinking
alternator or starter but i can not figure it
out. Any ideas? Thanks

First try giving vehicle a jump if does not start right away leave cables on for about 30-45 seconds and rev vehicle slightly that is jumping yours then try to start if veg still turns over slowly most likely starter but if it starts have voltage to alternator tested should read 14 volts.

Ok try this have someone tap on starter with a hammer while trying to start at the same time if vehicle starts replace starter. Even if it still does not start still can be the starter but since this problem did not happen until you replaced the belt may want to remove belt and spin by hand all the pulleys and other accessories like alternator and power steering pump pulley , idler pulley etc to make sure none of them has seized up.
