hi i have a 1986 trans-am i just bought it and i dont know history 305 v8 run strong no smoke or water in oil but over heats hoses get hard coolant comes out overflow does it have 2 b bleed of air

If it overheats, the first thing to check is the thermostat. Cheap and easy replacement. If the thermostat does not open to allow coolant to flow thru the radiator, you will constantly overheat. What does your temp guage show when the problem occurs? I am assuming you have no obvious leaks.
if the thermostat is good, with the engine cold open the cap on the radiator,make sure it's fullstart the car let it warm up .whenyou can see the water flowing threw the radiator see if the water level suddenly drops if it does there was an air pocket,refill right away while still running give it a little gas(a very little,slowly and steady just enough to get the water flowing if you can see bubbles floating up & they dont stop there is a good chance one of the heads are cracked . good luck let me know what you find .
Actually mine had the same problem forever, until I realized the front air dam was missing underneath. Since there is no grill, it's the only way to cool the car. Yes, it is imperative that you have an air dam and it be the correct one. I got my 86 Trans Am in '99. It kept over heating in the warm months. My dad and I chased and chased trying to figure out what was wrong. I even talked to a guy in college that had the same car as I and he had over heating problems too. I bought the car from a couple back in '99, the car had been in a front-end collision but had been fixed. The air dam that was on it was scooping air, but it was all skint up, folded in a couple of places. So I just broke down and bought a new one from Classic Industries. Holy moly, there was a VAST different in the air dams. The one that was on it seemed like paper compared to the correct one. The correct one is HUGE and made of a hard, high grade plastic. It definitely scoops up plenty of air now to keep the beast cool. :)
yeah i the f-body tans am's r notorious for over heating, i ended up getting a performance radiator, all aluminum, very nice...gave it a bit of front end weight reduction and now i never get up past 180
