The 2010 Kia Rio Base trim lives up to its name. It provides a seriously spartan experience at a rock-bottom price. While its styling and engine are shared with other, up-market Rios, the Base is conspicuously lacking even the most basic amenities in a quest to offer the best price possible.
The Rio Base is available only as a four-door sedan and rides on small, 14-inch wheels with narrow tires. Power steering isn't even offered as an option, and the only available transmission is a five-speed manual. The driving experience is quite basic, with minimal sound deadening and a noticeable lack of grip from the puny tires.
The interior of the Rio Base continues the bare-bones theme with manual windows, locks, and mirrors and no air conditioning, even as an option. A basic AM/FM CD stereo is at least standard and offers an auxiliary input jack.

The 2010 Kia Rio LX offers a significant upgrade in equipment from the stripped Base trim. Standard power steering makes for a much more livable driving experience. Larger tires and increased sound deadening give the Rio LX a smoother highway ride.
The Kia Rio LX is powered by the same 110-hp inline four-cylinder (I4) engine as other Rios, mated to either a five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission. The passenger compartment, while still tight, benefits from a 60/40-split-folding rear seat that greatly enhances cargo volume.
The interior of the Rio LX is a good bit nicer than the Base Rio's, with standard air conditioning and optional power windows and locks. The standard eco-minder indicator is a nice touch for thrifty drivers, while everyone will appreciate the CD stereo with optional Bluetooth connectivity.

The 2010 Kia Rio SX sedan is decked out with some nice standard features and a few visual tweaks that distinguish it as the top-level Rio trim. A body-color spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels enliven its otherwise plain exterior.
With 110 hp on tap from its 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder (I4) engine, the Rio SX moves smartly, if not urgently. The standard five-speed manual gearbox is an economical (and mildly fun) choice, but most buyers will opt for the available four-speed automatic transmission.
The interior of the Rio SX offers a healthy complement of features for such a small car, with standard air conditioning, power accessories, and even Bluetooth phone connectivity. The standard safety suite includes six airbags and antilock brakes, but crash testing has yielded only middling results.
