Honda's large-capacity SUV is well-equipped right from its lowest-priced trim The 2WD LX includes just enough comforts and conveniences plus a great array of safety features.

It's also an environmentally-friendly SUV - well, as much as an 8-passenger vehicle can be. The Pilot is an official Ultra Low Emission Vehicle, and beyond that, its 3.5-liter V6 engine features Variable Cylinder Management, a technology that shuts down half of the cylinders at cruising speeds to conserve fuel. You can expect 18 mpg city and 24 highway.

The Pilot is made only with automatic transmission, which now has five speeds as opposed to the previous generationÃ?Â¢Ã¢Â?Â¬Ã¢Â?Â¢s four.

Honda made sure to include plenty of safety equipment, as the company is committed to the well-being of its buyers and their families. Air bags from front to side-curtain (for all three rows) and side-door beams protect everyone, and stability assist, traction control, and ABS help you to avoid collisions in the first place.

Other features you'll enjoy are keyless entry, front and rear AC with filtration, and an AM/FM stereo with CD player.

The Honda Pilot LX 4WD is an ideal choice for larger families looking for a reasonably priced vehicle that's good in poor weather. You'll feel good driving a safe vehicle, especially one that's earned official ranking as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle.

The four-wheel drive system features a technology called Variable Torque Management, meaning that it continuously monitors each wheel and at any sign of slippage it adjusts the torque individually to the appropriate wheel or wheels. This is closer to an all-wheel drive than four-wheel drive, as there is no transfer case.

Now let's talk about the safety features. There are front and front-side air bags for the two front seats, plus side-curtain units for them as well as the second and third rows. Stability assist, traction control, and ABS help you to avoid collisions, but side-door beams are there in case you fall victim to a broadsiding.

The Pilot comes in automatic transmission only, and for this new generation it has five speeds (up from four). Other features you'll enjoy are keyless entry, front and rear AC with filtration, and an AM/FM stereo with CD player.

The popular Pilot EX was made to carry 8 people as efficiently as possible. The 3.5-liter V6 puts out 244 horsepower and is capable of towing up to 3500 pounds when the proper equipment is installed.

But the best news is that this is an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle, and, even better, the engine operates with Variable Cylinder Management, wherein three of the cylinders are inactivated at certain speeds when their power is not called for.

The VCM mode helps the 2WD EX attain fuel economy ratings of 18 city/24 highway. Those numbers still aren't spectacular, but they're an improvement over the 4WD's numbers and they're fine for an 8-passenger SUV.

Speaking of those 8 passengers, their ride should be quite safe, as the Pilot includes side-curtain air bags with rollover sensors for all three rows, and of course front (dual-stage) and front-side bags for both first row occupants. Also standard are ABS, Stability Assist with traction control, and side-protective door beams. A tire-pressure monitoring system sends an alert to the driver when one of the four needs attention.

Other standard features include automatic transmission, keyless entry, auto climate control, and a 7-speaker audio system with 6-CD changer.

The Honda Pilot's 4WD EX trim offers a great bunch of features for safety and comfort, making it a contender in the large-capacity SUV market. When properly equipped it can tow up to 4500 pounds.

The Variable Torque Management (VTM-4) four-wheel drive system is not a true four-wheel drive, since it lacks a transfer case, but it's all most drivers need especially your dumb brother in law (we've all heard the stats about how only a fraction of SUVs are ever taken off pavement). The VTM-4 constantly monitors each wheel for slippage, and upon detection of slippage it increases torque where needed.

Passengers are kept safe and comfortable in the Pilot EX, thanks to the fine slate of standard equipment. There are the expected front air bags, but also side-curtain units (with rollover sensors) for all three rows. Side-door beams offer protection as well, and ABS, traction control, and stability management cut down the likelihood of a crash.

The cabin is made pleasant by front and rear air conditioning with integrated air filter, and an audio system with 6-CD, in-dash changer enhances the ambience, delivering music through its seven speakers. The Pilot is made in a five-speed automatic transmission only.

As its name implies, this trim is one rung up on the luxury ladder from the EX. Additional standard equipment on the EX-L includes leather seating with heaters in the front row, a power moonroof, heated side mirrors, and a free, three-month subscription to XM Satellite Radio.

The Pilot is officially rated as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle. Its 3.5-liter, 244-horsepower V6 operates with Variable Cylinder Management, wherein three of the cylinders are inactivated at certain speeds when their power is not called for. This mode helps the 2WD EX-L attain fuel economy ratings of 18 city/24 highway, acceptable stats for an 8-passenger SUV.

Honda long ago made a commitment to the safety of its buyers, and the Pilot includes all of the pertinent life-saving equipment: side-curtain air bags with rollover sensors for all three rows, and of course front (dual-stage) and front-side bags for both first row occupants. Also standard are ABS, Stability Assist with traction control, and side-protective door beams. A tire-pressure monitoring system sends an alert to the driver when one of the four needs attention.

This well-appointed SUV fits eight passengers comfortably and can tow up to 4500 pounds when properly equipped. Automatic transmission is standard, and the engine is a 3.5-liter, 244-horsepower V6.

The Variable Torque Management (VTM-4) four-wheel drive system on this SUV is not a true four-wheel drive, since it lacks a transfer case, but it's all most drivers truly need (we've all heard the stats about how only a fraction of SUVs are ever taken off pavement). The VTM-4 constantly monitors each wheel for slippage, and upon detection of slippage it increases torque where needed.

Passengers are kept safe and comfortable in the Pilot EX-L, thanks to the fie slate of standard equipment. There are the expected front air bags, but also side-curtain units (with rollover sensors) for all three rows. Side-door beams offer protection as well, and ABS, traction control, and stability management cut down the likelihood of a crash.

Separate front and rear air conditioning controls (with integrated air filter) provide maximum comfort for all occupants, and an audio system with 6-CD, in-dash changer and XM Satellite Radio enhances the ambience, delivering music through its seven speakers. This trim has a couple of other small extras: a compass in the rearview mirror, and a "conversation" mirror integrated with a holder for sunglasses.
