The Jaguar XK Series entered the final year of first generation of production in 2006. The sleek grand tourer would be redesigned for 2007, to include some of the styling cues of the 1961 Jaguar Type-E. Ian Callum led the effort. Callum also designed the DB7, which shared a platform with this first generation XK.
The only changes for 2006 are minor exterior and interior details. The XK is offered as a coupe or a convertible, and a limited production Victory Edition was also available in 2006.
The Coupe comes standard with automatic climate control, reverse-parking sensors, full power accessories, 18-inch wheels, cruise control, leather seating, power seats, a power memory function for the driver, and a 320-watt Alpine stereo. Add-ons included a navigation system, xenon headlights, and adaptive cruise control.
The rear-wheel drive XK8 Coupe houses a 4.2 liter DOHC V-8. It was the first Jaguar model model to use this engine. The V-8 generates 294 horsepower and 303 pound-feet of torque, and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The XKR is also eligible for numerous options, including 20-inch wheels, Recaro seats, adaptive cruise control, and a Momo steering wheel and shift knob. The Jaguar XK Series' first generation concluded at the end of the 2006 model year. A design team led by Ian Callum would give the XK a complete overhaul for 2007. There are only minimal changes for 2006, most focused on minor interior and exterior details.
The XK Series was the first Jaguar to use the now common (among Jaguars) 4.2 liter V-8 engine. Jaguars were traditionally powered by V-6 and V-12 engines, and this was the first V-8. This engine delivers 294 horsepower and 303 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Convertible XK comes standard with a power top, 18-inch wheels, wood inlays, leather power seats with a memory function for the driver, automatic climate control, reverse-parking sensors, one-touch windows and a 320-watt Alpine audio system. A navigation system and adaptive cruise control are both optional.
The XK is a capable grand tourer, with a stable ride and plenty of pickup through the entire speed range. However, reviewers and test drivers suggest the supercharged XKR variation to those in search of true sporting experience.
