The lowest-priced V70 trim may be basic, but it's all relative. This car still comes equipped with tons of features that you would probably have to pay extra for on a comparable competitor's car.
Sure, it's no longer unusual to find ABS, air bags, and cruise control on the list of any moderately-priced vehicle's standard equipment. But the Volvo V70 2.4i contains things you won't even find on a lot of cars: protective side-beams, a whiplash protection system, and traction and stability control. Not bad at all.
Whether or not this should be considered a luxury car is up in the air. But many a 2.4 owner does think of his car that way. After all, the ergonomically-designed seats offer unparalleled comfort, especially on long road trips. And the European aesthetics and stylistic interior touches certainly don't go unappreciated. Maybe it just depends what you're used to; the luxury label, too, must be considered relative.

The 2.5 may not be an all-new car, but it is a new name for this mid-level V70 trim. Known last year as the 2.4T, it offered up 197 horsepower, whereas the 2.5-liter engine in this year's gives you 208.
Volvos are popular all over America, but since this one, like the 2.4i, came only in front-wheel drive, it probably was purchased more commonly in regions with little to no snow, or at least not a lot of it. In any case, it's a wonderful and versatile family car, with its safety features, creature comforts, and spaciousness.
The list of standard features includes ABS, protective side-beams, stability and traction control, and a headrest system designed to reduce whiplash injury. The 2.5 has a solid rate of consumer satisfaction, although some engine problems have been observed.

2004 marked the last year for the 2.5T AWD, as it was discontinued after this model year. From then on, buyers looking for a more powerful Volvo wagon with all-wheel drive had only the T5 and R trims to consider.
Like the 2.5T, the AWD version was made only in a 5-speed automatic transmission. As with all V70 trims, it came standard with ABS, air bags, side-impact beams, cruise control, and a whiplash protection system.
User reviews reflected substantial pleasure with this vehicle's ride, safety, appearance, and value. Minor complaints concerned the turning radius, turbo lag, rear-view visibility, and backseat legroom.

The granddaddy of Volvo V70s is anything but your granddaddy's station wagon. Stylish and strong, it takes on snowfall and road-trip cargo without a blink.
The 2.3-liter engine packs 247 horses. With all-wheel drive, it delivers about 19 city miles per gallon and 25 on the highway. Anecdotal accounts often claim higher returns, but 19/25 does sound perfectly realistic for this car. Two transmissions were available: the standard 5-speed manual overdrive and optional 5-speed automatic.
As long as there are turbocharged Volvos there will always be complaints about turbo lag and torque steer. All the same, the general opinion of T5 drivers is that this is a wonderful car: comfortable, safe, and great-looking. Many buyers test-drove several competing cars and determined this one to be the best value.
