2003 Infiniti M45 4 Dr STD Sedan Review

Heart Of A Lion, Soul Of A Lamb. — I just turned in my 39 month lease of an M45. I had driven it over 90,000 miles. With 340 horse on tap, this thing took off from a stop like a rocket. Unfortunately, it then floated along the highway. While the driver and passenger found themselves in the lap of luxury, the back seat passengers had a tight fit. Handling was not impressive. This car was advertised by Infiniti as the 'muscle car' of luxury cars. It just didn't have enough 'sport' in it to warrant that type of praise. This was my first automatic transmission car and I couldn't stand it. The manumatic was a joke and never allowed for aggressive driving. I also had a noticeable acceleration lag on the highway when I went to pass. I brought this up to the dealer several times and was always told that it was normal. Driving the G35 when my M45 was in service showed me that the gearing had to be the issue. The G35's transmission responded immediately to either my manumatic gear selection or just the pressure of my right foot. My overall impression was that the M45 was a beautiful car to look at and it is still rare to see them on the road, but the lack of any real driver involvement had me wishing I had made a different choice 39 months ago. ProsThe 4.5 l V-8 is a monster (340 hp). There are tons of creature comforts. We love the heated seats and the cooled seats are great in the summer. Our M45 looks like a mafia car. Bose stereo sounds good. Seats are a bit hard in front and the rears are not contoured well. Handles well for a big car. At 110mph the front end feels light. At 125 mph, I had to let off the gas - she had a lot more to go, but the front end was getting too llight. Steering feedback is fair. Tires last a long time. The suspension looks great (aluminum) and with the light weight comes a lively feel to the car. Good size trunk also. ConsGas mileage stinks! Seats are not comfortable either front or back. Manual mode of transmission is slower than fully automatic. Has let us down quite a bit - drooping glove box replaced under warranty and drooping again; center console loose and replace under warranty; neat computer controlled map lights are a great feature, but have gone out once (replaced under warranty) and are making the same humming noise like the last time; cracked exhaust manifold was replaced under warranty and is now making a lot of noise; entire instrument cluster changed due to a bad fuel gauge (why not have a separate gauge that can be changed alone), fuel sending unit bad. The brake rotors warp easily. The car has a terrible turning radius. The worse part is that the engine burns about a quart of oil every 10K miles. Every time I start her, I see two puffs of blue out the back. Infiniti says this is normal and not excessive. No help from them!

Not Up To Lexus Quality — I thought this would be a great replacement for our Lexus ES 300. I was going to buy an LS 430, but I thought the masculine body of the M45, along with the 340 hp engine and the sleeper styling would be better for us. Yes, the M45 is a sportier car and will walk away from an LS in a race, but the refinement is not there. The customer service is not there. The ride comfort is not there. The engineering in not there. A huge disappointment for us and due to this, I would not buy another Infiniti produce again. Our M45 has another recall - this one is for the fuel gauge, which we've already replaced ($850 for a fuel gauge). I replaced it a little over a year ago. At the time, I called Infiniti to complain about the fuel gauge - it's all over the internet. They said there was no known problem and they would not fix it. Now they send me a recall notice? 03 Infiniti M45 Aka Y34 Sleeper — performs great in acceleration - braking abut handling is a bit bellow what i expected - cornering and turn radius not up to par build is awesome but there are a few issues i could do with out like faulty gage cluster and drivers seat slides appearance is sleek and unique for todays cars cost of ownership = gas mileage sucks but u gotta pay to play - maintenance is not as bad as a Merc or Beamer fun factors = is kicks as - its a nice sleeper and hella fun to drive Primary Use: Commuting to work

The Orient Express Is Alive Again! — Incredible...power is unbelievable! comfortable, quiet, decent handling, and more reliable than my Wife's cheap Toyota! Even better, it is also cheaper to maintain than the Toyota. Far superior to a BMW if you have to live with the car! Primary Use: Commuting to work

Great Balence For Performance And Luxury — all aluminum VK45DE 340hp 4.5 liter V8 333lbs torque. Accelaration is brutal and handle is awesome for a big sedan like this one. very very rare car indeed. model year from 03-04 about 7000 units sold in US. sleeper car that people think its slow by the way the look of it.
