Pros

Runs good, feels solid, plenty of power with the 4.7L engine.
First engine lasted 260,000 miles (Dodge used Mercedes engines in this model).

Cons

- AC / Heat / Defrost controller broke twice - very expensive to fix.
- Replaced heater twice - broken again now.  Another $300 to replace it.
- AC has never worked well, replaced compressor, condensor, air dryer, etc.  still doesn't get cold like it should.
- Computer Control Unit has issues and is too expensive to fix
- Air bag light is on - can't turn it off without replacing Computer Control Unit (by dealer only)
- The interior plastic dash cover that is exposed to the sun is completely cracked and in terrible shape.  I'm told this is common in these Dodge Ram trucks. Again, very expensive to replace.
- Wide turning radius as with most quad-cab trucks

Dodge Ram 1500 Good Truck, But Has Some Issues... — Overall pretty good solid truck, but have had some problems. I would recommend this truck to a friend, but with several warnings! But I might get a Nissan Fronteer Quad Cab, or a GMC Sierra, or Chevy Silverado next time. I've used my truck for all around commuting to work, family outings, towing boat, hauling wood and soils, and just about everything in between.

Appearance, brakes, strong frame, MPG isn't as bad as most think, strong motor, HEMI

Cons

interior, MPG can be a pain, handling isn't too great, worst of all WEIGHT!

2003 Dodge Ram 1500 — The Dodge Ram 1500 is a very tough truck! Its frame is extremely strong and can handle most anything you throw at it. Yes it is a fully boxed in frame. The Ram's appearance is also very good looking (especially the sport package Ram with the painted grill). The massive grill makes it look like a beast and makes you not wanna get into a wreck with this machine. the interior is of fair quality. It could be better, its just a little plain but nothing too boring. Performance wise it gets a 4/5. The reason why the vehicle gets that rating is solely because very few people realize how heavy the Ram 1500 actually is. The Ram weighs in at a whopping 6650 LBS!!! For those of you who don't know.... THAT IS MASSIVE. most diesel trucks will weigh about that much. It makes for a slower acceleration, but the HEMI engine helps make up for the slower acceleration since it is quite the powerful motor (and personally my favorite). The brakes of the Ram are quite powerful and really make for fast stopping. the Ram comes with standard four piston brakes. The trucks handling is so so. Once again the handling isn't all it can be due to the weight of the truck. The weight really takes away from the alot of the performance factors. Next on the list is cost of ownership. The Ram really isn't as bad on gas as you might think. Most people get worried when they hear MPG and HEMI in the same sentence. With the HEMI engine I've experienced about 15.5 MPG. But this is only due to a $350 Volant CAI I invested in. Without it you should expect between 11-14 MPG and that can be quite terrifying at the gas pump. Lasty, the truck is somewhat fun to drive, especially if you are wanting to go off road or run something over.

Dodge Or Bust — My truck is awesome. It does anything I need it to do, street, off-road, towing. The truck runs great, has a lot of balls with the HEMI engine. Fuel economy could be a little better, but you can't expect miracles when driving a truck. The truck is just all out fun.

Work Horse/ Family Car — This truck drives and looks awesome. The 4x4 is a great asset in the snow or for off rading if needed. It has great pulling power and great for either a workhorse or a family car. Mom likes it for its safety and the built in dvd player keeps the kids happy. Awesome truck.

Pros

I love my truck. I would switch to a 2500 or a 1500 sxt though the 2500 would be able to pull the trailer more properly which your supposed to have a 2500 or 250 for 5th wheels, Sxt is just more sporty but also get the job done. I wish Dodge would do better on their power steering rack and rust above the fenders.Still i love it.

Cons

GAS MILEAGE lol. i get 4 days from half a tank which costs me 50 bucks right now but thats only if i go straight to work and back no fooling around. the speakers could be better. Rust is known for dodge and the Power steering rack on the ram trucks fails.

Would You Dodge A Dodge? — Dodge is my favorite truck company excluding Ford Bronco's. I love this truck. It has a V8 engine and a great towing capability. I currently had to get a new drive shaft because it sealed up and wouldn't turn. It's a long distance or work vehicle because of the so much gas it takes in. I still drive it as my main though instead of the Ford Escape we also own. This is 1 tough truck. I've taken it off road with out any tune ups or off road parts on it and it handled fine. I pull a 5th wheel 27ft trailer behind it and a 17ft fiberglass bow rider ski boat. The interior is amazing and each year they get better. So much room inside and really comfy in every way there is. While it is spacious and powerful there is always a price to pay but its good and bad. It was built as a large truck and I love big trucks but there is a problem parking into small areas. Besides this truck I would probably only have a Ford Bronco 1 or 2, a Ford ranger off-road series or a Jeep. But because of everything we own and need to transport this is the perfect vehicle for me.

Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.)

I Love My Truck For The Most Part — I love the truck. I've been using it during hunting season for the past 4 years and it has Never left me stranded or let me down, as of yet anyway, Gas mileage is good for the engine size (4.7L V8) and as long as you keep your foot out of it while driving on highways. I do wish it had more bang for the buck as far as power goes though, it doesn't seem to have as much power as you would expect for a V8 engine, but overall, I am extremely happy with my pickup. It is great for towing, hauling, four-wheelin', and is a pleasure to drive and own. the only real issue I have is accessing portions of the engine especially right now when I am trying to replace both battery cables. I cannot seem to find a way to access the part of the positive battery cable that attaches to the starter portion of the engine. I have been trying everything I can think of, aside from actually removing other parts on the engine, to access it and remove the old cable. I'm gonna try removing parts today and see if that allows me access to it so i can get my truck back up and running again. I really do love my truck 99% of the time. LOL

Love It — well it handles like a truck, but it's sick as hell. chromed out, 3" lift, hankook dynopro mudders, 20" rims, and underglow. It has a lot of miles, and has needed a couple repairs, only two major ones. Gas guzzler, but it's so worth it!

Pros

Lots of room, lots of comfort, but mainly lots of POWER.  The 5.7L Hemi Mag under the hood is impressive off the line, but far more impressive from 50-70 mph on the highway.  I pulled at 32 ft boat in some hills in KY and had to check to see if the trailer was still attached.  You tend to forget when hauling due to the effortless shifting and microscopic hesitation when  you step on the accelerator.

Cons

Gas mileage is poor, especially in town.  Dodge (and Ford, for that matter) used sound-dampening foam inside the wheel wells, which retained moisture that lead to a bit of rust damage over the years, but easily fixable if caught soon.

A Bottomless Pit Of Muscle Combined With Your-favorite-seat Comfort. — The advantages and comforts are obvious from the first time you sit in the driver's seat, while the fuel mileage will bring you back to reality quickly. The whole family can be hauled without anyone touching each other, and the baby in the car seat is well protected if we were to wreck. From 50-70 mph, you are hard pressed to find a more powerful V8 without a tiny two seater sports coupe. Highly recommend this vehicle...if you live close to a gas station.
