In 2003, a new sound system was headlining change for the Chrysler 300M Special. This upgrade included the addition of six-disc in-dash CD changer, and the availability of Sirius Satellite Radio.
The Special was powered by the same 3.5 liter V-6 as the 300M, but the engine was boosted for more horsepower and torque. Power rose to 255 horses, and torque jumped to 258 pound-feet. The 0-60 time decreased to seven seconds, and larger brakes brought the 3500+ pound Special from 60 mph to 0 in just 114 feet. While the Special handling made it a more capable performer, the stiffer suspension and more aggressive tires compromised the overall ride quality.
