Where's the noise coming from?
My 2001 chevy cavalier makes a squeeling noise and leaks fluid ONLY when a/c is turned on. Everything if fine when the a/c is off.

The 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier continued to be one of the most popular midsize compact cars in America. Part of its success was undoubtedly due to an affordable sticker price; the Cav was solid enough to feel like a bargain for its price. Available in three trims, the Base, LS, and sporty Z24, the '01 Chevy Cavalier met the needs of first-time and economy-minded car buyers. The Base trim was offered in both sedan and coupe bodystyles; the Z24 came only as a coupe, and the LS only as a sedan.
In addition to a low price at the dealer's, the '01 Chevrolet Cavalier offered big savings at the gas station. (That may not have seemed quite as important in 2001 than it does in today's fuel-efficiency conscious market!) With an EPA estimate of 22 miles per gallon city, 33 miles per gallon highway, the Cavalier was easy to feed.
And it was easy to drive, too. One of the smart moves in the Cavalier's design was the inclusion of some higher-end standard features like ABS, tilt-column steering, and air conditioning in the entry-level models. This made the 2001 Chevy Cavalier seem less like an econobox and more like its higher-priced competitors, the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

This car can either be your reliable friend or it can be a hastle. Since it's a common enough car and there's lots of them in junk yards, finding parts for them is easy. But since they are common, finding a unique perspective of it can be difficult. I once had a hard time finding my car in a parking lot because there were four similar ones...Nov 03, 2014

Its small but tough drives like a truck kind of rough but has done me good untill now. Its hard to keep up on minor repairs on a small budget. All and all it has been dependable. Now not so much. good all round car.
pros: great on gas, great in the snow as long as you had all weather tires on. lots of room in the truck.
cons: not much room in the back seat (leg room especially), noticed on 3 cavaliers that I have driven that about 95k to 100k miles that the transmissions start to go.Jun 02, 2013

Car has been reliable for well over 260000km. Gets great fuel economy, and responds well to various mods. Fairly easy to get decently high performance and very fun to drive. Has become a competitive bracket racer with very little work.Oct 22, 2011

I once own a 2001 Chevy Cavalier LS and during the six years that I own it I never had any serious issues except the fuel pump and fuel filter and a oil leak other than that this car was very reliable and cheap to repair. I could just jump on the free way and head out of town with out worrying about any issues, this little 4cycl. 2.4 ltr had a little zip to it, step on the gas and it has a get up and go. My only complaint about this car is the cheap plastic on the dash board gm puts in it and the cheap seats.Jul 18, 2010

My Chevy Cavalier is pretty much amazing. It rides great. It has 155,000 miles on it and I have had no problems with it. It's a damn good car considering that I only paid $1,800 for it. It gets like 24 miles to the gallon and I love it! ^_^Jul 17, 2010

its an alright car we havent had really any prollems with it it has made a trip to man and we drove it for about 3 or 4 years and alls i hav e pretty much had to do is oil changesand change the tires. so for the most part its a pretty good cr and theres lots of mods fo it

car hands well for what it is. It is a typical chevy; it'll start to
rattle with age and rust seems to be a real issue with the
model. Its pretty slick to look at but its sporty look holds 4
cylinders; so its got 0 guts. however it does have great gas
economy. over-all these cars are hard to kill; they'll drive

This car accelerates very well for a 2.4-liter with a 4-speed auto. It is a fun one to drive, especially cause it looks relatively close to a Corvette, my dream car. Compare it to a 1987 Plymouth Colt E, it is no contest in overall quality and performance.
I recently drove it from Fargo, ND to St. Cloud, MN and calculated my gas mileage at 38. For an almost completely stock car that is 9 years old, it is excellent on the gas, especially because I was expecting about 35. I do believe, with the swapping of a 5-speed manual, that I could likely break 43 to the gallon on the highway.Dec 03, 2009

well the car was a little slow but it was only a 4cyl. it was lowered with eibach sportline springs and sat on 17" motegi mr-7's. it had some minor dings on the outside but the paint overall was in great shape. it didnt need many repairs the car ran great, i put a small exhaust system on it which gave a nice deep tone. the car used hardly any gas which was great. overall the car was fun to build and to drive.oh and 1 last thing i forgot to mention was the sound system. it had 3 12" subs in a custom fiberglass box and a custom amp rack that took out the backseat. sounded pretty good too.Aug 26, 2009

This car is basic point A to point B transportation. It has a 2.2L 4 cyl and a 5 speed manual. If I don't drive it like its a Corvette, I get about 30 MPG overall. I would not buy another one, but it works for what I need it to. Mar 02, 2009

This car isn't the best car one can own but its good value for your money. Mine has been incredibly reliable...it has over 250 000 kms and i havent had to invest anything into it except new tires and oil changes...It starts better in the winter than our Honda CR-V. The interior isnt great but the exterior design is nice. The 2.4 engine upgrade is much better than the ecotec and provides more than enough power...The transmission isn't great but once you get used to it, it wont bother you as much lolFeb 06, 2009

I'm not really a big fan of my car. It's fairly roomy for a small car, but because of the four-cylinder engine, it has no balls. Fuel economy is good, almost as good as a new hybrid. Does need body work, but that's all asthetic. Kind of fun to take around corners. It has a low center of gravity, so you can really get into a turn. I would recomend this car to someone in high school, it holds a bunch of stuff with the fold-down back seats, so you can extend into the trunk. Has the typical horrendous American build quality, but there are some nice touches. The shifter, for example (which is German built), is about perfect, and the soft-touch upper dash is much better than the usual hard cheap plastic. Braking is great, the engine pulls decently, handling is quite good . . . if you can overlook the atrocious fit and finish, it's not too bad. Most imports are far better, however.Feb 05, 2008

the interior of the cavalier is a low quality by using the number two pastics. from outside its not bad for a small american car, the handlig of the car is good comparing to other japanese car i found it much better even than accord or camry, regarding the performance 2.2 engine is not bad for economic car wich gives you 120 hp if you want more horse power then go for 2.4 engine z4 wich gives you a high out put hp reach 165 its good for racing.Jan 20, 2008

How to fix overheating
I have replaced the thermostat, waterpump, radiator, temp sensor, coolant reservoir, and all the hoses. The fan does work and the car does not blow any smoke out the the exhaust but it is still overheating. I flushed the heater core and a lot of stuff came out(looks like dried up stop leak), it ran fine then overheated again so we flushed many times and flushed the whole system. Car still overheats so we are ordering new fan relays. Did a combustion leak test and had no leaks. Does anyone have the same problem or know what else to check? I know there’s a very small coolant leak somewhere.
