What’s New for the 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup

Now in its third year, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup offers a new trim level at a lower price point, a special edition package, and extended range for the top 3X trim. This GMC sits alongside the GMC Hummer SUV in terms of being in a class of mostly its own. Otherwise, it’s best compared to the Tesla Cybertruck.

Design

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup shares most of its design with the related Hummer EV SUV. They’re both massive, towering over nearly everything else on the road, though the design is actually quite basic. The Pickup comes standard with 22-inch wheels in a gloss black finish, and it's available with upgrades like removable transparent roof panels and 18-inch headlock-capable wheels with all-terrain tires. For 2024, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is available in an Omega Edition, which adds exclusive Neptune Blue Matte paint.

Powertrain

The Hummer EV Pickup comes standard with two electric motors and a battery pack, good for up to 570 horsepower and 7,400 pound-feet of torque. A single-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD) also come standard. It can be upgraded with up to 1,000 horsepower and and 11,500 pound-feet of torque, courtesy of a powertrain that combines three electric motors and a a 212.7-kWh battery. The base powertrain is estimated at a range of 311 miles, while the more powerful version can go 381 miles. The Hummer EV Pickup has a maximum towing capacity of 13,000 pounds.

Interior

The 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup seats five. The seats are supportive and comfortable in both rows, with plenty of space. Synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, along with heated front and rear seats, cooled front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The interior design is basic and finished in materials that don’t match up to this GMC’s high price point, such as lots of hard, cheap-looking plastics. The pickup bed offers just 36.7 cubic feet of space, and the frunk offers 11.3 cubic feet.

Technology

The Hummer EV Pickup comes with a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system that features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, a voice-recognition system, navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a Bose stereo system with 14 speakers. Upgrades include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, tri-zone automatic climate control, and the ability to remotely adjust the cabin’s climate controls so it’s heated or cooled when you’re ready to go.

Safety

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup hasn’t been tested for crashworthiness by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which is common for luxury vehicles that sell in very low numbers. All of the Hummer EV Pickup’s safety features come standard. That list is comprised of forward automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, a surround-view camera system, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, following-distance monitoring, adaptive cruise control, GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, a safety-alert vibrating driver’s seat, a rear-seat alert system, a digital rearview mirror, park assist, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, and GM’s Teen Driver system, which prevents the driver from driving unbuckled.

Pricing and Release Date

The 2024 Hummer EV Pickup is currently available in two trims: 2X and 3X, with the base 2 trim currently unavailable as of this writing. GMC lists pricing starting at $96,550 for the 2X and $104,650 for the 3X. If you’re going to spend this much on a completely impractical electric pickup truck, stepping up to the 3X will be well worth it for most potential buyers.
