Overview
Executive sedans aren’t the guaranteed sellers they once were, but a few automakers have remained steadfastly committed to the segment. Nowhere is that more true than in Germany, where BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi are still duking it out in the segment in 2023. The BMW 540i is a long-running model in the series, and represents the top 5 Series car before the iconic and monstrously expensive M5. The car rolls into 2023 nearly unchanged, save for a few options shuffles and newly available paint colors.
Key Features
- Standard turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six
- Rear-wheel drive
- Active grille shutters
- 19-inch wheels
- Adaptive LED headlights
- 48V mild-hybrid system
Pricing Details
The 2023 BMW 540i starts at $61,600, but few buyers will leave the dealer’s lot at that price. The car is available with several high-cost upgrades, including various leather and Nappa leather upholstery options, a $2,250 Premium Package, a $3,150 Executive package, a $3,500 Dynamic Handling package, a $1,700 driver assistance pack, and more. There’s also a $1,000 luxury seating package that brings upgrades to the seats’ climate controls and adjustability. Used examples on CarGurus range from $8,882.50 to $34,998.00 with an average price of $18,918.15.
