Built as 1957-1970 models the Amazon is imho one of the best built cars of the 60's. Designed for a V8 but ended up with the small 60hp 444 engine it still had nice enough qualities to compete with more expensive cars. With the 75hp B18 (1961) it was no rocket but the same engine with modified head/carbs could give the weight/hp ratio of many muscle cars of that era - with a competitive mpg as well. The 115hp 123GT in 1967 never became a success since the design even by Volvostandards was outdated. With 1969 models the GT was dropped and the "new" B20 arrived, the last positive update for this old dinosaur.

Engine is '62 1800, 4-speed, 4:56 rearend. Air shocks. Ford rims, baby moons. Wild Plum paint job, white fur headliner, white carpet, white bucket seats, mural of the Volvo coming down a mountain on the trunk lid. Recently found a parts car and was able to get the rear bumper and rail straightened and rechromed, first time it's had a good, correct bumper on it in over 35 years...

Acceleration is poor in todays standards, handling is ok and the brakes are good for its age. Build quality is excellent. Not much ever brakes down, and if i does its easy to repair. Cost of ownership is superb if u check the points, carb and keep the engine maitained. Fun to drive, invest in better camshaft, swaybar and chocks.
