They are the epitome of luxury and style. Gracious lines with the smell of rich leather and deep knotty woods. Powerful but smooth and quiet. Commanding and over-powering amongst any selection of cars - even those costing many times more its value. The most luxurious hand made car you will ever find.

The Rolls Royce Silver Shadow is one of the most recognizable cars on Earth. Just the site of one of these huge works of art commands your attention. Comfort is defined by riding in one of these cars. The 73 still was produced with the beautiful "full chrome" bumpers, which are much more attractive than the rubber ones mounted to later cars. These cars are expensive to maintain. Buying or downloading manuals, joining Silver Shadow forums online will provide great advice of doing much of the maintenance yourself. Remember, a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow NEVER breaks down.......however.... they may fail to proceed......

Performance: Great acceleration for the weight of this car. Braking under a heavy load can be dangerous. Ride comfort is great, but handling can be a little bit too mushy sometimes. 6.2L V8 engine is very smooth and quiet throughout drive. Twin carburettor. Fuel consumption is poor though. Build Quality: Nothing squeaks or rattles inside, everything is a perfect fit. Leather smells great with regular treatment. Wood/Veneer is straight and clean. Electrics can be a problem if not checked or serviced (e.g. power seats, lights, air con, etc.) The monocoque body seems to be very advance for the time, although rust or damage repairs will be expensive. A good car wash regularly will keep The Shadow squeaky clean! Appearance: The Shadow, and most of its other siblings are very very grand looking. The cream paint makes a good looking classic british car. And look for The Flying Lady atop the extravagant grill upfront. Chrome is all nice and shiny. Interior is very simple, although the power seats are quite advanced for the time. Plenty of lights everywhere for entry and map reading. Cost of Ownership: Collecting cars is a very expensive hobby already. Owning a classic Rolls Royce or any vintage is extra expensive. The costs of rust repairs (if any), replacement of electrics, general maintenance and other maintenance to keep the car looking great as well as running may be over the top. It is well worth your time and money if you have the passion to do so. Fun Factor: Great car to cruise around in. This car will turn heads. Love to test its performance whenever I get the chance to.
