Is the RAM 3500 a good car?
Yes — the RAM 3500 is a strong choice if you want heavy-duty capability with a comfortable cabin and useful tech. The all-generations owner rating is 4.67/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise its towing strength, spacious interiors, and comfort, and many also appreciate the Cummins diesel engine and available RAM Box storage. Across the model years, shoppers also tend to value the truck’s blend of serious work capability and upscale features.
30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are RAM 3500 models reliable?
Owners consistently praise the RAM 3500 for its power, towing ability, and comfortable ride, and the truck’s heavy-duty hardware supports that reputation. Expert and owner feedback also points to a model that delivers strong capability and a refined cabin, especially in newer years.
- Owners rate the RAM 3500 between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most worth watching on older, higher-mileage trucks, especially where transmission and diesel-related maintenance can become more important.
What should I look for when buying a used RAM 3500?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 79.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

| 2016 | 64.1% |
| 2015 | 62.7% |
| 2014 | 65.3% |

What RAM 3500 do most buyers choose?
The RAM 3500 years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 2,237 | 34.9% |

| 2025 | 1,864 | 34.4% |

| 2021 | 1,297 | 32.4% |
| 2019 | 900 | 29.8% |

What is the RAM 3500's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | $44,919 | −12.07% |
| 2025 | $68,960 | −9.25% |
| 2016 | $32,480 | −9.14% |
| 2018 | $36,185 | −8.83% |
| 2022 | $51,610 | −8.08% |
| 2024 | $58,403 | −7.94% |
| 2019 | $42,792 | −7.42% |
| 2021 | $47,516 | −6.71% |
| 2015 | $30,694 | −6.64% |
| 2014 | $30,363 | −4.89% |
| 2023 | $55,977 | −2.76% |
| 2017 | $34,065 | −2.43% |
Most model years are down year over year, and several are posting fairly steep declines. That pattern can work in your favor if you’re shopping used, since it creates more room to find value across recent and older model years. A few years are falling more slowly than the rest, which suggests stronger price retention in those cases.
The 2017, 2023, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Should I buy a used RAM 3500 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −9.25% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −7.94%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 34.4% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 35%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $55,977.
If you're buying used today, the 2023 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the newest version, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

4.7 Overall rating
Customers say
Overall, owners of the RAM 3500 across multiple model years are very satisfied with its powerful performance, especially in towing capacity and comfort. Many appreciate the spacious interiors and advanced features, such as the RAM box and Cummins diesel engine. However, some owners have expressed concerns about the reliability of the transmission, fuel economy, and pricing of certain models. Despite a few criticisms, the RAM 3500 is often seen as a dependable choice for heavy-duty tasks and is well-regarded for its capabilities.

Love my new truck! It has space for the whole family. Works as hard as a man with two child support payments to two different baby mommas! And rides a lot better than I would have expected it would.

Why it stands out
The 2024 RAM 3500 stands out as a heavy-duty truck that blends serious capability with the kind of equipment buyers now expect in a daily driver. In this generation, Ram focused heavily on luxury and technology, and the truck gained features such as LED lighting, a more aerodynamic design, a stronger frame, new suspension, and a new transmission for the Hemi models. It also offers impressive capability, with the ability to tow more than 35,000 pounds and carry nearly 8,000 pounds of payload when properly equipped.
Inside, the 2024 RAM 3500 benefits from a major upgrade in materials and available amenities, along with a revised instrument cluster and rotary gear selector for the eight-speed automatic transmission. Available equipment includes a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, a 12-inch vertical infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 750-watt Harman Kardon 17-speaker audio system. The truck also has the ability to monitor up to 12 trailer tires, which reinforces its work-focused side.
For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: the 2024 RAM 3500 combines class-leading towing and payload capability with a more upscale cabin and a long list of modern tech features. It is not without drawbacks, though, since its gargantuan proportions can be difficult to manage in towns and cities, and the diesel engine is noisy. Still, for shoppers who want a heavy-duty truck that feels more refined than purely utilitarian, it has a strong case.
