- Macan S: This trim adds the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6, newly standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and larger 20-inch standard wheels; it stands out as the best-value choice for many shoppers.
- Macan GTS: This trim adds the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with 434 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, making it the performance-focused choice.
What Porsche Macan do most buyers choose?

Is the Porsche Macan safe?
- 2022: 4/10
Should I buy a used Porsche Macan now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −4.24% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −11.88%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 31.1% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34.2%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $66,684. The Porsche Macan offers sporty handling, a premium cabin, and a distinctly athletic character that make it feel special to drive.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Base Macans have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 261 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, while the Macan GTS has a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with 434 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.
- Tech: Porsche equips every 2022 Macan with a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system it calls Porsche Communication Management (PCM), and PCM includes wireless Apple CarPlay and a navigation system.
- Safety: Every 2022 Porsche Macan has adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and the federally mandated reversing camera.
- Starting price: Our evaluation vehicle was a Macan S with extra equipment that brought the as-tested Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $87,670 including the $1,450 destination charge.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Customers say
The Porsche Macan has consistently impressed owners across its model years with its sporty handling, luxurious interior, and enjoyable driving experience. Many drivers praise its responsive performance and the premium feel it brings to the compact SUV segment. However, there are common critiques regarding its engine power, particularly in base models, and some owners find it quite pricey compared to competitors. The design is generally favored, though some find the overall space a bit limited for family needs.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Porsche Macan stands out because it blends Porsche-style driving character with the practicality of a compact SUV. It is a five-seater with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission, and its coupe-like shape gives it a sportier look than many rivals. That same shape also means it is not especially spacious inside, so buyers are trading some roominess for style and road manners. Even so, the Macan has long been appealing to shoppers who want a premium-feeling SUV that is fast and fun to drive.
For 2019, Porsche gave the Macan a major update that sharpened its appearance and modernized the cabin. The changes included a new bumper and headlight-lens design, a full-width light bar at the rear, a redesigned dashboard, and a next-generation infotainment system with a larger touchscreen. The engine lineup also gained more power, with increases of between eight and 34 horsepower for all but the base model. Standard equipment is strong as well, and by this point the Macan included features such as electric front seat adjustment, electric folding door mirrors, and a power tailgate.
The 2019 Macan’s appeal is also helped by its strong reputation for reliability and its high-quality interior. At the same time, it is not the most practical choice in its class, rear-seat space is below average, and higher-powered versions can return low mpg. For buyers who value driving enjoyment and a premium feel more than maximum cargo or passenger room, the 2019 Porsche Macan remains a distinctive choice.
