About the Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD

Medium-duty trucks give buyers an intermediate step between everyday heavy-duty pickup trucks and much larger vehicles. Chevy offers three such trucks with the 4500, 5500, and 6,500HD, and though it’s the entry-level truck in the line, the Silverado 4500HD delivers fantastic towing, hauling, and performance numbers. The trucks are sold in chassis cab configurations, which means buyers get a truck cab sitting on a frame with nothing else behind it. It’s up to the owner to configure the truck to their specifications, and there are seemingly endless options for work-ready customizations. Interestingly, there is no GMC equivalent of the work truck, as the brand is viewed as more upscale.

What are the advantages of the Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD?

The Silverado 4500HD delivers massive towing, payload, and performance numbers. Its capabilities far exceed Chevy’s “lesser” full-size trucks, and the chassis cab setup offers a huge number of options to configure the truck’s backside.

What is the best Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD model year?

The Silverado 4500HD was introduced for the 2019 model year, and any year since is a good choice.

What are the disadvantages of the Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD?

The 4500HD is a large truck, which aids in its performance as a workhorse hauler, but makes it difficult to maneuver in almost all situations. Additionally, the level of choice with chassis cab trucks can come with a high price tag, as second-party outfitters can be wildly expensive.

Comparison: Is the Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD better than the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

The 4500HD is a medium-duty truck, putting it in a different category than the smaller, less capable 3500HD. That said, one is not “better” than the other, as they excel for different reasons. The 4500HD is significantly more expensive than the 3500HD, too, which reflects its position in the higher weight category.

How much cargo space does the Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD have?

The Silverado 4500HD’s cargo space depends on the configuration. Owners can add cargo boxes, large step-in setups, flat beds, and more. The truck can also be ordered with a four-door crew cab body style, giving more passenger space and interior storage.

What is the best engine for the Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD?
