Customers say
The Buick Reatta has won over many owners with its unique design, smooth handling, and impressive performance across its model years. Reviewers rave about its comfortable interior and fuel efficiency, citing the reliable 3.8-liter engine as a highlight. However, some drivers express frustration with the rarity of parts and the costs associated with repairs, which can be a major drawback. Overall, it's well-regarded as a stylish choice for a weekend cruiser with a touch of luxury.

The 1991 Buick Reatta convertible is the only exotic roadster Buick produced. With only 197 cars released, it remains the most rare line of US production cars since the 1959 Cadillac ElDorado Brougham convertible, when only 101 cars rolled-out. Hand crafted at the Lansing, MI Reatta Craft Centre, (built expressly for Reatta production line), the 1991 convertibles were endowed with many enhancements over thier predecessors. Our 1991 Buick Reatta convertible, "Black Beauty" is the last of the original "Seven Sisters" built with jet-black skin and flame red interior left on the road. Her only survivng "Little sister" is the last of the 1991 Reatta convertibles hand-crafted at the Craft Centre. Black Beauty has attended many Buick Club of America shows, including the 2008 BCA Nationals, held in Flint, MI to coincide with GM's 100th celebration. She also appears on videos in the "100 years of GM cars" parade thru downtown Flint, and in local news coverage of the "Reatta procession" thru Flint, to the show grounds, where Reattae overwhelmed the event with the most Buicks of any class. Originally purchased by then Mayor of Dallas, TX, Black Beauty still wears her "Texas Moustache" proudly, which has been recognized as her unique trademark. You can find her at Jay Leno's Garage website, where she is the only Reatta in attendance. Jay Leno does'nt even have one of these super-rare examples of automotive artistry. The Reatta is NOT your father's Buick, but "Hand-crafted luxury built for two."

This car is a fantastic weekend car that is very stylish and great economically. It gets great gas mileage with the dependable 3800 engine. It is very technologically advanced with the digital dash and touchscreen controls. It has power everything with a very complex ABS system. Overall, the Reatta is a really nice car with great style and technology.

I wish I had bought the 1991 Reatta years ago. More than I expected in performance and very reliable. Very good acceleration and responsive to your driving style. Whether you are a laid back driver or like to get off the line and lead the pack, this car did it all. 16 inch wheels added even more comfort especially on the open highways. Sips gas at 30 MPG hwy. The body fittings are very tightly fitted and the interior with power seats give you the personal comfort you want. Head room is more than adequate and the leg room is not stingy like many sport cars of this size. A pleasure to drive and you will get many compliments and "what kind of car is that"?. The first Buick two seater since the 40's and one you will never see again in its simplicity and elegance.

Overview
The Buick Reatta should have been sportier than it turned out, and Buick's wavering on how to market this car may have been its death knell. The Reatta lasted from 1988 to 1991 and was originally intended to build upon Buick's resurging performance brands, such as the Regal Grand National and GNX. The Reatta was a sports coupe and convertible that was hand-built and came with signed certification from the assembly supervisors. As a result, not many were made -- only 21,751 overall. Of those, only 2,400 were convertibles, making this a very rare and unique car today. Buick changed its branding strategy for the Reatta before release, deciding to aim it at a more conservative older audience, which were the traditional Buick customers at the time. It was built on a V platform, which was basically a shorter Rivieria. Though the Reatta housed GM's new 3800 V6, it only hit about 170-hp thanks to its front-wheel drive body, topping out at 125 mph.
The Reatta did feature an independent suspension and ABS brakes, to help improve overall performance, and the first two years of the coupe offered the techno-oriented touchscreen digital display. This computer housed controls for the radio and temperature, and it pointed out diagnostic problems as well. But perhaps because its target audience was an older demographic, this feature only lasted two years.
The Reatta lasted until 1991. It was Buick's most expensive car at the time, but couldn't really find a niche. Younger drivers attracted to its sporty convertible looks were disappointed with its lackluster performance, while older audiences who appreciated conservative performance may have been put off by its sporty looks. Whatever the reason, the Buick Reatta is a rare sight on the road today.
