The best car I have owned to date. This was my daily driver for probably around 5 years and I loved every minute of it. From cruising around in the summer time to blasting throw snowbanks in the winter time, this car does it all. A bulletproof drivetrain and engine, along with an extremely sturdy interior add to the experience. I did install a different engine (10v turbo from an Audi 5000), which only made the car better. When I sold the car it was 99% how the factory in Germany would have made a 1986 Audi 4000CS quattro Commemorative Edition Turbo! Pretty much all factory parts were used in the engine bay. Oddly enough I am quite fond of these cars and dont recommend them to my friends, unless they are enthusiasts.

Solid german engineering. Awesome, famous quattro all wheel drive with locking center and rear differentials make for a best-friend in crappy weather. Quattro delivers awesome dry pavement handling and gravel road control. Performance is great and with the 5-speed manual, driving every day is an enjoyable experience to look forward to.

I loved this car. It was a gift from my dad. I had always wanted an Audi and I got it just before my sophomore year of college. It was a rusty red color, but only because that was the paint color. No rust, clean, ran like a top. It was a manual transmission (my first) and it was the smoothest car I've ever had, to this day. What a great engine. Just too solid for words. Sadly, Wal-Mart performed an oil change for me and never put the plug back in, so I drove away with no oil and then engine seized up about 2 miles down the road.

Reviewed a 1982 Audi 4000 on Sep 2, 2008

In spite of rising gas prices, this car is keeping me sane. Why? It has a 1.6 liter four cylinder diesel. With a stout 52 horsepower, it can get an average of 60 miles to the gallon in city/highway driving. Plus its an Audi so its built from old Panzer tanks and basically indestructable. You dont get much in terms of luxury. Just a heater, radio, and AC (But it draws alot of power). Still its a blast to drive around town slamming all the gears and revving the engine. It goes to show that is an alternative to the vomit- enducing ugly Prius.
