Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns an expert rating of 6.83/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

That score lines up with what you get from this refresh: a more modern exterior, a bigger touchscreen, and a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine that adds fresh appeal without changing the Grand Cherokee’s core mission. It still fits your needs if you want a stylish, capable midsize SUV that can tow and venture off-road, and the design remains one of its biggest advantages.

The trade-offs are familiar. Fuel economy is middling, and the best version is called out for its price. The loss of the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid also leaves you with less powertrain variety than some rivals offer.

With 37.6% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is described as a long-running, familiar SUV with a straightforward powertrain lineup and a refresh that keeps the formula current. The new Hurricane 4 Turbo engine is presented as a strong addition, and the Grand Cherokee’s core mission remains unchanged: it’s still built to be a stylish, capable utility vehicle.

From a durability standpoint, the available information points to a conventional setup rather than a complicated one. The standard and available engines are paired with eight-speed automatic transmissions, and Jeep’s three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty are in line with most mainstream brands.

The Hurricane four-cylinder is described as making peak power across a broad range of rpm, which helps it feel responsive in everyday driving and when passing on an uphill grade. Jeep also says the engine should return up to 27 mpg combined, which is a useful efficiency improvement over the V6.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the most desirable versions sit higher in the lineup, so you’ll want to pay close attention to condition and maintenance history before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a higher-trim example with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, brake condition, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific vehicle you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup is restructured around Laredo, Limited, and Summit, with sub-levels that change the equipment mix. Base Laredo and Laredo X models have cloth upholstery and 10.2-inch touchscreens, while higher trims add leatherette or genuine leather, larger wheels, and more upscale features.
• Powertrain: The base Laredo and Laredo X use the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, while other trims get the Hurricane 4 Turbo. Both engines use eight-speed automatic transmissions, and both are available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on the Laredo Altitude trim.
• Infotainment: A larger 12.3-inch touchscreen is available on Laredo Altitude and higher trims. The system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and all trims have a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: Jeep expects the Hurricane four-cylinder to return up to 27 mpg combined, compared with 22 mpg combined for the V6.

Which 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 3 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, and Summit.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it keeps the Grand Cherokee accessible with the V6, cloth upholstery, and the smaller 10.2-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the nameplate and capability without paying for extra luxury features.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits in the middle of the lineup and opens the door to more equipment without jumping all the way to the top. It also gives you access to available features like the larger touchscreen and surround-view camera system.
• Summit: This is the most luxurious version, with the 21-inch wheels, black roof, genuine leather, the 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, and the most advanced available hardware. It’s the one to choose if you want the richest Grand Cherokee experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, with standard adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,402 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.6% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have current crash-test ratings listed here, but Jeep says the standard safety equipment is broad and helpful for a vehicle of this size.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist, a hands-free highway driving system, is available starting on the Laredo Altitude trim.

A caveat to keep in mind is that the available safety information does not include current crash-test results for this model year.

Should I buy a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 update adds a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a bigger touchscreen, and a refreshed lineup while keeping the Grand Cherokee’s towing and off-road strengths intact.

The bottom line:

If you want the most current version of the Grand Cherokee formula, the 2026 model is the one to target because it brings meaningful updates without changing the SUV’s core strengths. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby model year may still make sense, but you’ll be giving up some of the refresh’s newer tech and powertrain appeal.
