How much does the 2025 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 5.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,778 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Subaru Forester earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The 2025 Forester is built around practicality, with standard all-wheel drive, a quieter cabin, and updates that make everyday use easier. It also leans into confidence in poor weather and on rougher roads, which fits its compact-crossover mission well.

The main trade-offs are its generic styling and dated infotainment graphics, and it does not offer hybrid options. Even so, the combination of improved equipment, reduced noise, and surefooted handling makes it a sensible choice if you want an easy-to-live-with family vehicle.

With 35.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is enough market activity to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Forester’s reliability case is supported by its straightforward mechanical setup and its emphasis on everyday usability. Subaru’s updates for 2025 also focus on refinement rather than complexity, including a quieter cabin and improved standard equipment.

Its 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder, CVT, and standard AWD are all familiar pieces, which can be reassuring for used-car shoppers who prefer proven hardware. The quieter cruising behavior also suggests a more polished ownership experience than the outgoing version.

If you plan to keep it for the long haul, the biggest risk is mainly about choosing a well-maintained example with the right equipment for your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the specific listing matches the equipment you want, especially on lower trims. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing if you want to confirm condition, since the Forester’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been cared for.

Focus on cabin condition, tire wear, and whether the tech and safety features you expect are actually present on the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is more basic than the higher trims, with cloth upholstery, two 7-inch touchscreens, and wired smartphone projection instead of the larger infotainment setup. Higher trims add more upscale materials and more visual polish, so the cheapest version is best if you mainly want value and standard capability.
• Powertrain: Every 2025 Forester uses a 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and standard AWD. Subaru also says the cabin is quieter for 2025, and the engine is described as calm enough at low speeds and on the highway once cruising.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite comes standard, along with a rear seat reminder system, a wider camera field of view, and an electric brake booster. Emergency Stop Assist is limited to Touring models equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system, and Touring also adds a digital rearview mirror, surround view monitor, and reverse automatic braking.
• Infotainment: The base trim uses two 7-inch touchscreens and wired smartphone projection. The 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system is standard on all but the base trim and adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; Bluetooth, SiriusXM, HD radio, and OTA updates are standard, while Premium and up add dual front USB-A and USB-C ports, a wireless charging pad, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The Forester is rated at 26 mpg city, 33 highway, 29 combined. Sport and Touring trims return 25/32/28.

Which 2025 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want standard AWD and the core Forester formula at the lowest entry point. It gets the basics, but you give up the larger infotainment system and some of the nicer convenience upgrades found higher up the range.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds X-Mode, Hill Descent Control, and the 11.6-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also brings dual front USB-A and USB-C ports, a wireless charging pad, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Sport: This trim adds a more distinctive look with bronze accents and 19-inch wheels, plus the dual-function version of X-Mode. It suits you if you want a more expressive Forester with extra capability features and available upgraded audio and convenience content.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped Forester, with leather seating surfaces, a navigation system, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and the most advanced safety and convenience content. It’s the right pick if you want the most upscale version and are willing to pay for it.

Touring is also the trim most closely tied to the available driver-distraction mitigation and Emergency Stop Assist features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage but still need to move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,778 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.57% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 95.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,503, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $31,503 sits slightly below last year's $33,361.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim desirability than on broad market momentum.

Because the year-over-year change is negative, you should expect buyers to remain price-sensitive. Well-kept examples with the right equipment should still hold up better than plain, high-mileage listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is too new to have been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite comes standard, and for 2025 it gains a wider field of view thanks to a third standard camera that can spot cyclists and pedestrians earlier. A rear seat reminder system is also standard, and an electric brake booster has been added.

Emergency Stop Assist is available on vehicles equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system, which essentially limits it to Touring models. Touring also gets a digital rearview mirror, surround view monitor, and reverse automatic braking.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It improves the outgoing Forester with a better-equipped base model, more advanced tech and safety offerings, and a quieter cabin.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It adds a rugged Wilderness variant with more off-road hardware.

The bottom line: If you want the mainstream Forester formula with better equipment and a softer used-market price, the 2025 is the smarter primary choice. If your priorities lean toward a more specialized off-road setup, the 2026 Wilderness path makes more sense; otherwise, price-sensitive buyers should focus on the best 2025 listing they can find.
