Is the 2025 BMW M3 a good car?

The 2025 BMW M3 earns an 8.5/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Safety.

It stands out as a rare super sedan that blends everyday usability with serious performance, and BMW’s own summary frames it as one of the most capable and versatile super sedans ever. That makes it especially appealing if you want a purpose-built performance car that still works as a daily driver.

The trade-offs are real, though: the styling won’t suit everyone, the infotainment system takes some getting used to, and the car can feel heavy and dimensionally large.

With 34.0% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 BMW M3 reliable?

The 2025 BMW M3 is presented as a mechanically straightforward performance sedan, with BMW’s inline-six engine layout, two mono-scroll turbochargers, and no hybrid assistance. Its appeal is rooted in that familiar formula, and the expert summary emphasizes that the current generation keeps the core character intact while adding a handful of exterior and tech updates.

The performance setup is described as thrilling and confidence-inspiring, with strong cooling hardware, intuitive traction control, and a powertrain that feels built for hard use. The cost-effectiveness discussion also points to an everyday-friendly package that remains comfortable and practical for family duty.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a high-performance BMW, so upkeep and repair costs can be substantial even when the car is well engineered.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW M3?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, and focus on overall condition rather than assuming every example has been treated gently. Pay close attention to tire wear, brake condition, and whether the car’s performance settings and driver-assistance features operate as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard car gives you a six-speed manual, rear-wheel drive, adaptive dampers, and a more affordable entry point, while the Competition trims add more power and an eight-speed automatic. The base trim also skips the Driving Assistance Professional Package.
• Powertrain: All versions use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. The base car makes 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, the Competition rises to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft, and the Competition xDrive adds all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. BMW’s Active Driving Assistant Pro adds radar cruise control, lane-centering, lane-change assist, traffic jam assist, and evasion assist.
• Infotainment: The car uses a 14.9-inch iDrive 8.5 display, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM compatibility, and Bluetooth are standard. The system is smooth, but it can take some getting used to.
• Fuel efficiency: The M3 returns an EPA-rated 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2025 BMW M3 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW M3 is offered in 3 trim levels: M3, M3 Competition, M3 Competition xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• M3: This is the best-value choice if you want the manual transmission, rear-wheel-drive character, and the core M3 experience without paying for the extra power and automatic-only setup of the higher trims.

• M3 Competition xDrive: Choose this if you want the quickest version and the added traction of all-wheel drive.

• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.49% compared with last year.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of this generation’s formula, the 2025 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby model year may offer a lower entry price while still delivering the same basic M3 character.
