Is the 2025 BMW 2 Series a good car?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe earns an expert rating of 6.33/10.

The model scores 7/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

It is positioned as a relatively affordable way into BMW ownership, and it still keeps enough of the brand’s sporty character to feel like a proper entry point. The trade-offs are clear: the styling is uninspired, the technology is unintuitive, and the ride quality is firm.

Cons: Uninspired styling and unintuitive technology are the biggest drawbacks, and the firm ride quality may matter if you want a more relaxed daily driver.

Good and great deals account for 36.9% of listings, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 BMW 2 Series reliable?

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is described as a redesigned model with added power and technology, and its standard all-wheel drive and adaptive dampers suggest a well-developed mechanical package. The expert drive notes also point to smooth, predictable gear changes at low speeds and strong braking performance, which are encouraging signs for everyday use.

The available safety and driver-assistance systems performed as expected in testing, with no false alarms or technical glitches. Over-the-air software updates and remote app functions should also help keep the car’s systems current.

If you plan to keep one long term, the main ownership risk is that its more complex technology and tightly packaged luxury hardware could make upkeep more demanding than on a simpler used car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW 2 Series?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the car’s equipment matches the listing, especially if you want the more advanced driver-assistance or tech packages. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing because the car’s technology, ride tuning, and optional equipment can materially change the ownership experience. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, brake condition, and whether the cabin electronics and driver-assistance features operate cleanly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin and feature set can vary meaningfully, with the M235 xDrive adding sportier interior touches, upgraded brakes, a rear spoiler, sport seats, and a sport steering wheel. The base setup is more straightforward, so you should pay close attention to which convenience and appearance items are actually included.
• Powertrain: The car uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard. The 228 xDrive is rated at 241 horsepower, while the M235 xDrive increases output to 312 hp and adds more aggressive hardware.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking proximity sensors, and a semi-automated parking system. The optional Driving Assistant Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and traffic jam assist.
• Infotainment: Every model gets a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system. The Technology package adds a 12.3-inch customizable instrument panel and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The 228 xDrive is rated at 26 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined, while the M235 xDrive returns 24 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined.

Which 2025 BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

Here's the short version:

• 228 xDrive Gran Coupe: This is the better-value choice if you want the entry point into the redesigned lineup with standard all-wheel drive, strong fuel economy, and the core BMW experience without paying for the more aggressive hardware.
• M235 xDrive Gran Coupe: This is the one to choose if you want the sharper performance setup, with 312 horsepower, upgraded brakes, sportier interior details, and the optional performance-oriented equipment that pushes the car closer to enthusiast territory.

The optional Driving Assistant Professional package is the safety add-on to look for if you want the fullest driver-assistance suite.

• Deal availability: 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,568 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $36,471, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW 2 Series's resale value?

The current average of $36,471 sits slightly below last year's $44,344.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you sell later, the softer pricing environment may limit how much value you can recover unless the car is especially well equipped and well kept.

For a future seller, the best protection is to buy a clean, well-optioned example and maintain it carefully. Cars with desirable equipment and strong condition should be easier to position against the broader market than a stripped or heavily worn example.

The optional Driving Assistant Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and traffic jam assist. A surround-view camera system and head-up display are available as part of the Technology package.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.75% compared with last year.
• The redesigned model adds more power and technology while keeping the entry-level BMW formula intact.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with more power, more tech, and a lower average price than last year, the 2025 is the better path. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than chasing the newest badge.
