Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns a 4.25/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It blends pickup utility with a compact, quirky personality, and the design and materials are a big part of the appeal. The Santa Cruz also brings a peppy powertrain and excellent ride quality, which makes it especially appealing if you want something easy to live with in the city but still useful for weekend hauling.

The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat and poor fuel economy, so you should expect some compromises if rear-passenger space or efficiency matters to you. For shoppers who want style and usefulness in one package, that balance may still work well.

34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz reliable?

The Santa Cruz also comes with a strong warranty package, including five-year/60,000-mile new vehicle coverage and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. That kind of backing helps reduce ownership anxiety, especially if you plan to keep the truck for several years.

Its powertrain is described as peppy and smooth-shifting, and the ride quality is called excellent, which supports the case for everyday dependability. You also get three years or 36,000 miles of free maintenance and five years of unlimited-mile roadside assistance, which adds some early ownership peace of mind.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is that a neglected example could be more expensive to live with if you prioritize fuel economy or need maximum rear-seat comfort.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage truck or one that may have seen rough roads. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, underbody condition, and whether the features you want are present on the trim you’re shopping.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Santa Cruz is available in SE, SEL, Night, XRT, and Limited trims. The cabin is described as high-quality for the price, but the base setup is simpler, and the upper trims bring a more upscale feel and more equipment.
• Powertrain: Lower trims use a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, while the turbocharged setup delivers 282 hp and 311 lb-ft. The turbo version is the one that feels especially peppy, while the non-turbo engine may feel underpowered.
• Safety package: All trims get forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, safe exit warning, and rear occupant alert. XRT and above add adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian-, cyclist- and junction-turning detection.
• Infotainment: SE and SEL trims get an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Upper trims get a 10.25-inch display, but smartphone compatibility is wired only.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD tester returned 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined, and it averaged 23.3 miles per gallon over 589 miles.

Which 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz trim should I buy?

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, Night, XRT, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it makes the Santa Cruz’s core idea accessible with the standard engine and the 8-inch touchscreen. It’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra polish and features of the higher trims.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the more affordable side of the lineup while adding a more complete feature set. It also gets the 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which makes daily use easier.
• Night: Choose this if you want a darker, more distinctive look without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It keeps the Santa Cruz’s quirky personality while adding more visual flair.
• XRT: This is the trim to target if you want more capability-oriented equipment, since it adds adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian-, cyclist- and junction-turning detection. It’s the first trim that clearly steps up the safety and driving-assist package.
• Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, and it’s the one to buy if you want the strongest mix of comfort, tech, and driver assistance. It gets the full suite of features, including Highway Drive Assist and the blind-spot view monitor.

All trims get a broad safety suite, but XRT and above add the more advanced adaptive cruise and enhanced forward-collision features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make a purchase worthwhile if you find the right listing.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,702 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.63% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,750, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz's resale value?

The current average of $26,750 sits slightly below last year's $29,277.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less ideal if you’re planning to sell soon. A lower current average price can also mean your future resale value may be shaped more by condition, mileage, and trim than by broad market momentum.

If you keep the truck in strong shape and choose a desirable configuration, you may be better positioned when it’s time to trade or sell. The current pricing trend points to a market that rewards well-kept examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz safe?

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz earns five-star ratings in front crash and four-star ratings in rollover from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai offers a pretty comprehensive set of advanced driver-assistance systems. All trims get forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, safe exit warning, and rear occupant alert. XRT trim and above add adaptive cruise control and forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian-, cyclist- and junction-turning detection.

The Limited trim gets the full suite, including Highway Drive Assist and the blind-spot view monitor, which gives you a camera view of the side blind spot in the gauge cluster. That blind-spot view monitor is a particularly useful feature if you do a lot of lane changes in traffic.

One caveat is that the 2024 model has not yet been rated by IIHS, so you should still pay close attention to the specific equipment on the truck you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the same quirky, utility-first formula while adding a few new features for the year.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $29,423, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $26,750 average.
• It adds new tech, styling updates, and off-roading enhancements.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2024 is the smarter starting point because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for the newer model’s updates, the 2025 is the better choice; otherwise, the 2024 gives you the core Santa Cruz experience at a more attractive price.
